Former S.C. Governor Nikki Haley Announces Run for President

What’s the story?

• Nikki Haley — former South Carolina governor and ambassador to the U.N. from the Trump administration — announced her run for U.S. President early this morning. 
• In a video posted on Twitter, she said: 

“The Washington establishment has failed us over and over and over again. It’s time for a new generation of leadership to rediscover fiscal responsibility, secure our border, and strengthen our country, our pride, and our purpose…I’m Nikki Haley and I’m running for president.”

• Haley is the first Republican to challenge former President Donald Trump in the upcoming race for president.
