Election Day Dress Code: What Not to Wear to the Polls
Did you know wearing certain apparel to the polls was illegal?
What can you wear to the polls?
- Some states have laws restricting what voters can wear to the polls on Election Day; a rule extended from banning active campaigning near a polling place, also known as electioneering. The law says you can’t bring or wear anything to the polls that would influence someone’s vote.
- The Texas electioneering law states:
“...a person may not wear a badge, insignia, emblem, or other similar communicative device relating to a candidate, measure, or political party appearing on the ballot, or to the conduct of the election, in the polling place.”
- In 10 states — California, Delaware, Kansas, Montana, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Vermont — electioneering laws specifically forbid voters from wearing anything that shows support for a candidate, party, or ballot box issue. These constraints can extend to buttons, banners, hats, pens, pins, stickers, and more.
- Violating the electioneering rules could be serious, depending on your state. For example, in Kansas, electioneering is a class C misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail or up to a $500 fine. In Michigan, you can be charged with a misdemeanor for wearing political apparel within 100 feet of polling sites. In most states, instead of being prosecuted, you'll be asked to change, cover-up, or take off the garb.

"Republicans have been followingthe Steve Bannon strategy—to “flood the zone with shit”—to a T during the 2022 election season. This is particularly true when it comes to what they euphemistically call “election integrity” but in fact is simply anti-democratic election denialism, whose purpose is less to swing elections in their favor than to undermine the public’s belief in the value of voting. But they’re really just getting started.
The zone is being flooded with a variety of false claims: that mail-in ballots are easily manipulated and this a major source of “voter fraud”; that various machines used for tabulating ballots are set up to delete GOP votes; that Democratic operatives acting as “mules” drop manufactured ballots into official ballot boxes; that “illegal aliens” are voting in large numbers. These are all articles of faith among both MAGA voters and the GOP’s dominant Trumpist candidates. And social media companies are not lifting a finger to prevent their spread."

When I did not use old-age maiin ballots, I just wore whatever I happened to be wearing. I do not wear political slogans, just ratty old volleyball T-shirts from the past that team sponsors bought for us along with shorts, sweats or worn out jeans. Damn, I am a cheap SOB, just like my wife says I am.
Gotta go, I see a penny on the ground over there
I didn't know but I vote by mail. I wore my sweats😊
This year I'm choosing to vote in person. I would prefer to vote by mail but in the state three miles from me the Republicans are attempting to invalidate all mail-in and absentee ballots, even those arriving on or before election day. A judge has actually allowed those ballots to be set aside until the issue is settled. Republicans in my state are attempting to, or at least threatening, to do the same. I want my vote to count. I use a cane for ambulation. If I am challenged at the poll in my attempt to vote or my attempt to vote interfered with that cane can be effectively used for other purposes such as self if necessary.
Before you go vote, go fill up your tank, go the grocery, pay some bills, and look at your 401K!
Voted at 6:30am! I have waited for this day for so long. I pray that there is a wave of red that cannot be questioned. Dear Lord, save this country from this madness. Give us our country back and let the evil be destroyed.
Amen
I use to dress for the weather when I had to stand outside in line waiting to vote. Now that our polling place is in our building I don't worry about the weather. It's also easy to check to see if there is a line and come back when there is none. Usually if there is a line it's very early or late for folks that are trying to vote before or after work. During the day there is usually no line.
Republicans have been attacking the heart of our democracy out it the open sense 1964 and covering up by yelling "voter fraud"
I used to wear some form of red, white, and blue on election days. However, that was long ago. When I dropped off my ballot this time I pondered the need to get dressed before remembering, yes, I do have to get out of the car.
ps
i voted, why do I have to still see/hear the ads?! 👎
That's the solution, at least in my part of the state of Texas! Even though I voted, I'll go stand in line ALL DAY NAKED! That ought to chase off a bunch of the Taliban supporters‼️🤣🤣😂🙌
Any of my Reps looking to show up⁉️
