House Takes Up Birth Control & ‘Minibus’ Spending Bill, Senate Considers Judicial Nominees
How do you feel about this week’s congressional schedule?
What’s happening in Congress?
- Lawmakers return to the Capitol this week with the House set to take up a birth control bill along with a “minibus” appropriations package, while the Senate is set to consider judicial nominations.
- It’s possible that both chambers of Congress may consider a $52 billion bill to boost domestic semiconductor production as a standalone bill or a broader package to bolster competitiveness with China if a deal is reached.
- Bipartisan negotiations by a conference committee on the competition and semiconductors bill have been delayed amid Democrats’ internal talks about a reconciliation spending bill.
- Democrats’ reconciliation bill could be considered once an agreement is reached on a final package, although talks are ongoing and the spending negotiations are no longer expected to include climate spending or tax increases due to opposition by Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV).
SENATE SCHEDULE
- The Senate starts its week Monday with a procedural vote on the nomination of Nina Wong to be a U.S. District Judge for the District of Colorado. If it succeeds a confirmation vote will likely follow on Tuesday.
- Later in the week, senators may vote on the confirmation of Judge J. Michelle Childs to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. She was recently considered as a potential Supreme Court nominee by President Joe Biden, who ultimately nominated now-Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
- Committees will hold hearings on weapons of mass destruction and health security threats to the homeland; approving Finland and Sweden’s NATO membership; and mass shootings.
HOUSE SCHEDULE
- The House starts its week Monday with votes on 10 bills under the fast-track “suspension of the rules” that requires a two-thirds majority for passage after an expedited debate. The docket includes several bills related to parks, heritage areas, trails, plus wild and scenic rivers, in addition to a resolution expressing support for Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO.
- The rest of the week will likely focus on a bill to codify access to contraceptives, in addition to a six-bill “minibus” appropriations package.
- Committees will hold hearings on the economic policy response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and liability for gun manufacturers; and the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Check below throughout the week to see the vote results and updates to the schedule.

Hoping both the House & Senate have taken into consideration they only have 10 working days to get things done before going on recess for 1 month, and then when they return in Sept they have 4 weeks before being out on recess for 6 weeks.
Time to get Senate appointment confirmations done considering we are 18 months into this administration.
Chinese Chinese Competitiveness Legislation is very important. We should not be relying on China for chips. We’ve seen how easily a military can be handicapped without chips for military equipment, and China is closely watching Russia to see what it can getaway with Taiwan making this a national security issue.
Also of importance is birth control. Given the uncertainty of abortion these days depending on geography, birth control becomes even more important.
House is busy with 10 pieces of legislation which hopefully they have agreement for versions that can pass in the Senate.

"Sarasota, Florida’s Herald-Tribune over the weekend published an op-ed praising the Proud Boys, written by a woman who describes herself as a “God-fearing Christ follower,” a “mother of two beautiful children,” a “patriot,” and the “wife of a man who defends his family and their freedoms.”
What the paper and the author neglected to note is she is married to one of the Proud Boys, Mediaite reports.

They are trying to make sure birth control is available to all who need it.
as it should be.
Perhaps less recess time is in order to get the work of the people done!!
At least both houses are working to do some things in a bipartisan manner. Thursday’s January 6 meeting will be interesting and I’m afraid a sad day for the Presidency.
This is all BS! Our government is so far removed from reality. Instead of working on WASTING OUR TAX DOLLARS, maybe you should start working on the economy, soaring costs of goods, becoming energy independent, deporting the thousands of ILLEGAL immigrants, etc. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU ALL?! America is suffering at the hands of a corrupt traitor! WAKE UP!
Any spending bill MUST contain strong climate action. Our entire planet is at risk every moment we fail to act to curb carbon emissions and build green infrastructure.
If Joe Manchin doesn't support saving our planet, then find a way to go around him. Honestly, if this means shutting down the government, then I'm fine with it.
The inflation is rough, but none of it matters if the west burns, the midwest floods, and the south continues to get pummeled with hurricanes. Climate change is an existential threat and I'm looking for political leaders with the spine to act.
I'm only voting for candidates with that spine from now on.
"Two primary super PACs seek to establish Republican majorities in the Senate and House — the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) and the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF).
Those two groups, which can accept unlimited donations, collectively raised $188.3 million through March 2022. Nearly half of the money, $89.4 million, has come from just 27 billionaires, according to a new report from Americans for Tax Fairness."

Democrats need to seriously amp it up on confirming President Biden's judges before the end of this year. The conservative-tilt on our federal courts needs to be immediately balanced!
Democrats govering and republicans obstructing and the media will not say that.
We shouldn't have to be voting to protect the rights if contraception. I also hope there are motions to finding preventions and safeties to minimize mass shooting.
Did anyone get to catch the phony performance of AOC and Omar protesting today for abortion, stopping traffic in front of the SC. AOC never misses an opportunity to get in front of a camera. Just like the other phony performance she played being a victim on January 6th. After putting there hands behind there back to appear they were handcuffed, police walked them away. Actually only AOC got a policeman to walk her away. Omar basically walked herself to jail. Just a brutal day for them!
Seems that everyone in America knew when Steve Bannon was supposed to testify before Congress except for Steve Bannon. This proves one of two things that Steve Bannon is the biggest idiot in the United States or that Steve Bannon is a liar. As Bannon has spent most of his recent adult years working for the biggest liar in the country, Donald Trump I'm betting Steve Bannon is simply just an anti-American Lier.
As long as legislators bow to their bribers rather than fulfill their constitutional duty to represent their constituents nothing will change. Vote them out and replace them with honorable people who will work for you.
The People's House will convene to talk about "birth control" while the country crumbles with inflation, invasion, crime, homelessness, and a hoard of real problems facing the people of this country that was once known as the "Beacon on the hill."
the left's ajenda nothing new, or for the whole nation
It doesn't really matter what the House does. All the Republicans will vote against it even if it is something good for the country. Then their Republican buddies and Manchin will kill everything when it gets to the Senate.
Congress continues to be a waste of time and taxpayer money
The Fed Govt has no business whatsoever in Abortion. Including using Taxpayers money for anything to do with Abortion or "Women's Health". Any Bill that actually gets passed in the U.S Congress on these matters will get overruled by the SC. The SC has already made the ruling on the Fed Govt and Abortion. Use your time to repair the damages this Biden Admin is doing to Our Country.
I wish I could feel more optimistic today... but I see too much harm being done to America by the GOP...everyday and everyway.
They will ALWAYS vote for their interests...never mine...never the people...never the ones that work their lives away and are then discarded and disrespected...stealing benefits we worked hard to earn.
Moving forward. Would like to see more, but certainly can't expect you people to work like we do. We're not professional system milkers. We are expected to actually produce. We don't keep our jobs if we don't. Make sure the build back better things are going ahead. It's what we voted for.
There seems to be a real disconnect with reality in Washington. We are literally broke and here they are, going on as usual, spending money as if it grew on trees and debt was only fantasy. We are $30+ TRILLION in debt. We have $162 TRILLION in unfunded liabilities. Yet most simply disregard this fact as if it were without consequence and Congress just continues to overspend at $6 million per MINUTE or $9 billion EACH DAY, and all the people say is "Go Ukraine". This is delusional insanity. If one were to start counting to 1 trillion at 1 second per number, it would take them 32,000 years to finish. It would take 426.6 lifetimes of 75 years each. That's just for 1 trillion. Imagine how long for 30. How many generations of grandchildren are going to pay for our debt and spending today? Do we really care about their inheritance? All our actions say we only care for our own interests of today and instant gratification, all else be damned. We show how much we care for our children and grandchildren with every dollar spent, and history will condemn us for it.
It doesn't sound like the Senate is being very useful, as usual. As for the House, I am looking forward to the Jan 6 hearing and wishing the DOJ would get going and start criminal proceedings against the former WH resident.
Ban assault weapons and handguns, remove the Fica cap , tax reform and wealth tax, remove all the participants of January 6 coup and jail term for treason
