U.S. & NATO Providing More Military Aid to Ukraine Amid Russia’s Invasion
Do you support or oppose NATO providing Ukraine military aid amid Russia’s invasion?
What’s the story?
- The U.S. and its North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies are sending additional military aid to Ukraine as the beleaguered country enters its third week of fighting against the Russian invasion ordered by Vladimir Putin.
- Within the latest aid announced are more anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles similar to those which NATO has been supplying Ukraine with for the last few months. It also appears as though NATO may soon be able to provide longer-range, Soviet era air-defense systems to Ukraine if it can find a way to “backfill” that air-defense capability in countries that donate their systems to Ukraine.
U.S. Aid to Ukraine
- President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced the latest tranche of $800 million worth of military aid for Ukraine. The $800 million in security assistance includes:
- 2,000 Javelin anti-tank missiles; 1,000 light anti-armor weapons; and 6,000 AT-4 anti-armor systems. Ukraine’s military has previously been supplied with Javelin, AT-4, N-LAW, and LAW anti-armor systems, among others.
- 800 Stinger anti-aircraft systems. These shoulder-fired man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) are effective against low-altitude aircraft and have been supplied to Ukraine during the ongoing war by the U.S. and NATO.
- 100 Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems. These are reportedly Switchblade loitering munition drones (aka "kamikaze" drones) which include 10 munitions per system. Switchblades can be deployed remotely from over 6 miles away from the target by the operator. The Switchblade 300 contains a Claymore-like anti-personnel explosive that can be used against infantry, artillery, and transport vehicles; while the larger Switchblade 600 contains a Javelin-like anti-armor explosive.
- 5,000 rifles; 1,000 pistols; 400 machine guns; 400 shotguns; and 100 grenade launchers.
- Over 20 million rounds of small arms ammunition, plus grenade launcher and mortar rounds.
- 25,000 sets of body armor and 25,000 helmets.
NATO Aid to Ukraine
- Slovakia has preliminarily agreed to send its S-300 air-defense systems ― which have a longer range than MANPADS and can hit higher-flying jets or missiles ― to Ukraine “immediately” if NATO provides a replacement air defense system.
- The U.S. and NATO are reviewing options to do that, which may involve Germany moving some of its Patriot air-defense batteries to Slovakia. The U.S. recently deployed a pair of Patriot batteries to a base in Poland near the Ukrainian border.
- Britain has shipped Starstreak MANPADS to Ukraine and also announced the deployment of its Sky Sabre air-defense system to Poland.

If Putin’s aggression is not stopped in Ukraine, he will not stop there. There has to be overwhelming consequences for his actions as a world precedent or more Putins will emerge following his playbook. The only way to prevent this is to stop him. It is in NATO’s interests, Europe’s interests and the world’s interests to do everything possible to stop putin’s war before more putin wannabes can emerge from the sludge. … … … Look at how many trump’s we have in government now that the trump showed them the way to ‘succeed’ because the erstwhile principled Republicans refused to stop him as his abuses of office grew and grew with each new abuse that the Congress refused to collectively hold him accountable for. … … … Putin’s actions are similar but on a world wide scale as his atrocities continue to mount and most are afraid to stand up to him and say ‘bad dog, NO’ and rub his nose in it. NATO and the UN need to set the agenda for Putin rather than just reacting to the agenda being forced by Putin. … … … Yes, NATO and the world needs to support Ukraine in any and every way practicable. … … … For example, NATO and the UN should start by telling Putin that the world of nations are going to set up humanitarian corridors and enforcing them so that people are not trapped in cities with no food, medicine or water and prevented from getting access to these basic human necessities. This should not be a negotiation - this should be a demand. If Putin wants to declare war on the rest of the world collectively, I wish him luck.
All who know better have said this is a losing war. To put aid for Ukraine binds the next President to handle with diplomacy.
eastimates of over 400000 Ukrainians are dead. Russia is too big to be defeated abd truthfully, they just want the West to stay off their borders ...meaning Nato.
we certainly would not like the CCP setting up camps on the southern border...we would not tolerate it.
so know that I DO NOT want one more drop of aid for Ukraine. Doing so is killing off an entire generation of Ukrainians.
please vote no on the upcoming bill to give anymore aid to Ukraine...lets take care of our own birder first.
Please, support aid to Ukraine. War creates poverty and poverty spreads in all directions from immigration, diseases, economics, and the general balance of peace is disrupted.
It’s not enough. They need offensive weapons too. Like tracked vehicles, artillery like 105’s and 80mm mortars. And projectile tracking radar. The A10 Warthog is a perfect tool to take out armor. The Ukrainians can easily defeat this very poor force of Russians. They have a manpower advantage plus their on home turf. The US needs to talk less and do more. Biden is correct, Putin has to go. The NATO alliance could win this war in two weeks. Stop worrying that this despot will resort to nuclear weapons and use force to make him Quit before Ukraine is reduced to cities of rubble and dead bodies.
Remarkable how conflict creates production, hence makes money! WASHINGTON — The production of critical Stinger and Javelin missile systems can be boosted, said the U.S. Army’s acquisitions and logistics head, allowing the United States to refill its arsenals after sending thousands of the systems to Eastern Europe in support of Ukraine.
Russia needs to be bombed out of Ukraine, Targeting the equipment cost money, Hard line sanctions will slow the war machine down giving the Russian people time to get rid of the mini Hitler Putin.
The world needs to get out of fuel and gas pipeline business in general. It may never be 100%. As long as I have lived plus looking at history, I fine hate, wars, bigotry, inequality, entitlement, wealth, corporate greed, discrimination, drive bye shooting, destruction in general and more are a big waste of time and energy. What is interesting, is that the only thing some people live for is power, control of other and greed. Sort of reminds me of all authoritarian fascist dictatorship Putin, Hitler, Mussolini, Hirohito, Kim Jong-in and others want a bees rule the world wackos, creating their own reason with faults flags and misinformation.
Dear Representatives & Senators, Time to provide far more humanitarian support to Ukraine. Given the cruelty perpetrated on civilians by the Russian Military, it is time to punish Russia not just through sanctions but by the most intensive military support. It is past time to provide ALL the aircraft and ordnance Ukraine needs not just to fight back but to win decisively. ###
There are 193 countries in the United Nations. 9 of these have nuclear weapons. At least 3, Russia, Syria and North Korea, have exhibited antagonistic behavior. My sense is that, in this age of instant ev-er-y-thing, the role of the U.N. and NATO needs to be re-examined and expanded, especially in light of the recent circumstances involving Ukraine and Russia. Hostilities by any nation, but especially one with the massively deadly capabilities of Russia should be unacceptable. The only valid rationale for initiating hostilities should be when peace keepers to step in to quell a hostile threat. This should be the job of the World Treaty Alliance(WTA) which would include the major players who are current members of both NATO and the UN plus other members of the UN that have demonstrated by their votes and actions to be responsible world players and worthy of admittance. For a country to be a part of the UN currently, it must apply for membership, be assessed, and then be voted in. The country has to be approved by the five permanent member countries: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This might be a sticky wicket with Russia now demonstrating that it will most likely be the first nation to be quelled by the WTA. There's a reason Russia isn't part of NATO. Hell, Russia was the catalyst of NATO's existence! So, safe to say Russia won't be included. NATO is a powerful deterrence to nut jobs like PUTIN but it isn't powerful enough or have the necessary mandate to prevent all future wars. Creating an organization with that kind of clout seems both necessary and scary as hell. Checks and balances to power are only as good as the humans in charge at the moment. We learned that with Hitler's rise to power and again more recently with the Trump administration's seeding of the cabinet and judiciary with his hand picked crooked cronies, attempts to quell and discredit the independent media, open defiance of political norms and long standing traditions as well as ignoring the rule of law. All Hitleresque behaviors. It's going to take people as motivated and brilliant as our founding fathers to write the new World Order Constitution (WOC) which will be enforced by the joint armies of the WTA. No nation should ever again be allowed to threaten another nation's sovereignty either with war or economically. It is insane to want to do it and it should be a capital violation of article one of the WOC and dealt forthwith by the formidable combined armed forces of the WTA. But my sense is that, just by having a WOC and the WTA such a circumstance will ever occur.

I suspect one of the many things being taken into consideration when debating if/when the US military should get directly involved in Ukraine is determining whether the American people have any appetite for getting involved in another war. I’d like to make sure my representatives in Congress know that this American would like to see the US and our allies use our combined military forces to protect and aid civilians in Ukraine.
Send them guided missiles and ammo, Strengthen sanctions until Russians get rid of Putin permanently.
For all the January 6 insurrection refugee that are wanted by the FBI Russia and Belarus will grant you refugee status. I think it would save the tax payers money, if we just send them there. They wanted to live under authoritarian fascist dictatorship. They can have firsthand experience, my second choice is North Korea.
To the Russian people: Just listen to the song “Zombie” by the Cranberries. Read the lyrics as you listen and ask yourself, “Is this ok? Will all this work out and everything be fine?” If the answer is “No.”, then demand better. I know this won’t come without sacrifice. WE do! But you are a courageous people. My God, are you forever courageous! This is YOUR country. YOUR land. YOUR home. Paid for a hundred fold. What you do Will matter. To everyone on this planet. But far more for yourselves. I know these words may sound hollow coming from someone thousands of miles away with no skin in the game. But they are not, I assure you. A micro angstrom of skin in comparison to what you and your countrymen may lose, but guys, come on, there’s a lot riding on what’s going on here, and now. And no matter what you believe we, on the outside, are thinking about all of you; We love you. At this exact moment, maybe for the first time in our history: You are us, and We are you. And as trite as this may sound, We are with You. So please, make good choices. And we’ll do the same. We’ll ALL do everything we can to make good choices. We have to. It’s time - A commodity now. One we cannot do without. But 100% worth fighting for. Choices. Another innate ubiquitous aspect all humans are born with regardless of living in an oppressed nation to an optimistic one. We all have them and make them every moment of every day. The irony here is You have to make the choice to say NO to a dictator whose driving force is to remove peoples ability to choose. But that power doesn’t reside with him. It resides within all of Us. Power to the People.
I support defending Ukraine and disabling Russia's economy to the point that Putin is overthrown.
The stark reality is, knowing all that we know, either Putin dies or we do. No choice really, is there?
Comment pertains to Russian in Belarus athletes does anybody even care if these people are expelled from the Olympics or world sporting events? I mean my God they shoot up a little 15-year-old girls with steroids, their athletes have been caught again and again taking illegal drugs to gain a advantage. They’re a nation of cheaters. The less they have learned is if you can accomplish it don’t work any harder just cheat at it. And that seems to be the Russian viewpoint of the world. That they are entitled even though they don’t put in the effort or have the talent.
This is a lot hotter than the Cold War. Putin has already said he's in favor of a preemptive nuclear attack if he feels threatened. How much can we give Ukraine before his button finger really starts to itch. I'm in favor of reminding the world repeatedly of the mutual mass destruction in store for everyone. That deterred the soviets in '62. But first we must convince the world loudly that our fingers are poised on the button.
JimK, Nope not sorry at all. 😊While I was hoping for a tale about you in the 🤢🙈🙉🙊🤮. I can totally get by with the image of you in volleyball shorts…😁 NH
Of course! That is the purpose of NATO.
It’s Belarus decides to enter this war on the side of Russia they should be laid to economic waste for the foreseeable future. In addition Ukraine should be given the weapons to completely attack all, every square inch of Belarus
