House Takes Up Forced Arbitration Agreements & Possible Russia Trade Sanctions, Senate to Consider Nominations

SENATE SCHEDULE
- The Senate starts its week Monday with a procedural vote on the nomination of Shalanda Young to be director of the Office of Management and Budget. If it succeeds, a confirmation vote would likely occur Tuesday.
- Later in the week, the Senate may consider additional legislation or nominations, including Susan Grundmann’s nomination to serve on the Federal Labor Relations Authority.
- Committees will hold hearings on U.S. tools and responses in combating authoritarianism; strategic trade engagement in the Indo-Pacific region; and the role of digital assets in illicit finance.
HOUSE SCHEDULE
- The House starts its week Tuesday with votes on 10 bills under the fast-track “suspension of the rules” process which requires a two-thirds majority for passage. The docket includes a number of bills from the House Natural Resources Committee related to parks, public lands, and historical sites.
- The rest of the week will feature votes on a bill to prohibit the enforcement of forced arbitration agreements involving consumer, employment, antitrust, and civil rights disputes; and a bill to ban discrimination on the basis of hair texture or hairstyles commonly associated with a particular race or national origin in areas where discrimination based on race or national origin is already banned.
- Consideration of a bill to end preferential trade treatment for Russia in terms of tariffs may occur later in the week.
- Committees will hold hearings on stock trading reforms for Congress; violence and threats against black institutions; and healthcare workforce recruitment and retention at the VA.
