I believe we should do whatever is reasonably possible to stop Russia’s wanton expansion.

Leslie G: Thanks, once again - this time for digging up the details on the threat to transatlantic communication undersea cables by the Russian Navy. I would expect some US submarines will be in the general area for sometime to protect these international assets. … … … I would expect Putin to be developing some pretext for grabbing the Donetsk region (I think that is spelled correctly) which has a lot of Russian speaking and pro-Russian nationals by claiming that mother Russian needs to protect them. There have been indications that Russia is producing a propaganda film with actors portraying the aftermath of a brutal Ukrainian attack on the Russian national populace in border regions - complete with staged casualties, staged damage to buildings and with captured ‘western-looking’ equipment that the Ukraine supposedly used. … … … The NATO alliance needs to keep things cool for the next few weeks as the ground begins to thaw that would really slow down a mechanized heavy weapon force. The diplomats need to find a ‘bone’ to throw this dog so he can claim some victory. I would offer a promise to not stage tactical offensive missile systems in any NATO territory within 50 miles of the Russian border - so he can claim that he has helped secure his country’s border.

The Biden regime cannot even protect our own US border why is he going to a foreign country to protect theirs. Things that have been posted in the news and on the website Biden and Harris should both be in prison for treason against the United States. Sending 30,000 troops overseas to protect Ukraine’s border from invasion on Russia but he cannot send troops to our border or finish the war to protect our country against illegal immigrants rapists murderers drug dealers human traffickers cartels from Our own Border is unsecure from cartels in Mexico and China from importing fentanyl and other drugs into our country which killed tens of thousands every year. Yet the Biden Harris regime do nothing to stop it

Why hasn't Germany supported NATO??? IF Germany was "surrounded" by Putin would not NATO provide support??? This is a concern.

I believe it is highly unlikely that Russia would invade Ukraine but they will offer that nations provinces military armament assistance as the ties with the Capitol of Kiev worsen. Fact is the government of Ukraine has prevented fair and honest elections for years and from the nations formation in its many eastern provinces and it is for that reason we should not become involved. The State of Crimea had the right and exorcised some years ago to leave the Ukraine union and had the right to form an alliance with Russia as it did. Tragically the trade promised by Kiev politicians and western officials have never come to be and the fact is Russia is still Ukraine's largest trading partner and mostly with those eastern provinces that also share other close ties and families across the borders and that is just the reality the West must come to grips with.

Armchair Speculation on Ukraine Putin will probably not risk destroying Russia’s economy and destabilizing his political security by invading Ukraine. He wants you to think otherwise. One of my children helped me get a new, used desk chair. Honestly, it isn't lovely, but it is so much better ergonomically. I hope it improves my armchair speculations and intuitions. Regarding the Russian & Ukrainian Weather Conditions known as Rasputista, @Leslie wrote: "But nothing brings it home like being there, having cars stuck in the mud, walking on icy streets that aren’t cleared of snow & ice, wearing layers when it’s -40 degrees to appreciate the logistics of everyday life much less extreme conditions of war."* So again, it is likely that logically and strategically, Russia's window to strike will be determined in substantial part by the Rasputista. Other things to consider: Military Budget in US Dollars US ~$768 Billion UK ~$62 Billion France ~$48 Billion Ukraine ~6 Billion Russia ~ $100 Billion Other NATO / EU Countries will likely help. As for other considerations, there's this Due to ongoing hostilities with Russia, Ukraine increased the size of its armed forces to ~215,000 soldiers, and there is an additional ~250,000 in the Reserves. There may be near 7 million Ukrainians fit and able to be called upon. And this "If McCain saw Russian forces, more than 100,000 strong and building, poised to invade Ukraine from the east, south, and, most alarmingly, north, where they could threaten Kyiv, he would contend that any hope of restraining Putin would depend on convincing him that his military objectives would result in the destruction of Russia’s economy and the destabilization of his own political security. To that end, McCain would argue, the U.S. should outline the nature of those consequences without ambiguity." From "What John McCain Would Say About Putin and Ukraine" - The Atlantic By Mark Salter https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/01/john-mccain-putin-ukraine/621265/ Mark Salter is the former chief of staff to Senator John McCain. He is the author of The Luckiest Man: Life With John McCain. https://www.indiebound.org/book/978198212093 I recommend reading the reports and noting the facts. Try to put "official" statements in context and recognize the media’s need to keep us at the edge of our seats. Eg Biden Admin no longing will call invasion 'imminent." Meanwhile in addition to moving 8,500 troops to Eastern Europe we learn that President Joe Biden is ordering 2,000 U.S.-based troops to Poland and Germany and shifting 1,000 more from Germany to Romania, demonstrating to both allies and foes America’s commitment to NATO’s eastern flank amid fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Pentagon said Wednesday." Making the real number more like 11,500 or 35% more than initially announced. If Russia has 130,000 troop and the Ukraine 215,000 troops plus reserves and the US address 11,500 and then Nato countries add thousands more. Putin’s blitz may indeed be no longer imminent. Or even likely successful. Don't forget there is a sizeable if temporarily repressed and silenced opposition inside Russia. And that's only the one we know about. But I wish we had feeds from all war rooms. ... "Of the 2,000 U.S. troops newly deploying from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, about 1,700 are members of the 82nd Airborne Division infantry brigade, who will go to Poland. The other 300 are with the 18th Airborne Corps and will go to Germany as what the Pentagon called a “joint task force-capable headquarters.” Source: "Biden orders forces to Europe amid stalled Ukraine talks "WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is ordering 2,000 U.S.-based troops to Poland and Germany and shifting 1,000 more from ..." https://apnews.com/article/e3336e8a1e04e35d29e687575b5258a9 *@Leslie's Full Comment: https://www.causes.com/comments/1518793

CAUSES ASKS: "Do you support raising the readiness of the NATO Response Force?" ME: Common sense tells me "yes." Considering the less attractive natures of human beings -- territoriality and aggression, to name just two; there are many others -- it behooves NATO to be prepared to see that these natures are not exercised.
