Love ❤️ these types of events!!!!
How would MLK want to be honored? Certainly not by the damn hypocrites who are taking away voting rights! How dare they stand there and do everything to stop what MLK stood for and praise him in the same breath!?! It's totally disgusting and un-American! Pretending is their tool! Common sense sees right through their games to destroy everyone's rights and mock us in the process. It's not the 1950's! Wake up people!
Right on, Leslie! ❤️😊❤️😊
Carina, you are an absolute ignorant a-hole! Can’t you see who is fighting against voting rights and desecrating his memory? Not the left you worthless piece... Every time you post you prove that your ignorance knows no bounds.
Absolutely, Ronald! 😊❤️😊
@Leslie, thank you so much for your most poignant links. A good remembrance of what he really stood for.
Today I honor Dr. King by providing Pre-K training to support special needs students in Mississippi. The best non-paid work that I do, besides rescuing animals! I can’t wait to hear what you are doing with your day of service Congress???
Today we saw the content of many politicians' characters. Any who quoted Dr. King or praised him while at the same time refusing to pass legislation to protect equality and access to the vote are hypocrites and should be sent back to the 50s where they belong. What a shame.
I just don’t know how many more ‘holidays’ or days of service we can add. If one looks at the calendars, every day is a cause of service. Heck the other day was ‘dress your dog up’ day. Plus, this administration has rewritten history to suit their warped agenda that I don’t feel like we have cause to celebrate or recognize anyone or anything. I truly do consider MLK a person of great character and inspiration. Now if people would follow some of his great advice and words, our world would be a better place.
We've had no electricity at our house for two days, with no relief in sight, so my ability to help others is severely limited, although I've sent messages of encouragement to two struggling students. Every year on this holiday, by contrast, I think back to the moment in 1968 when I heard of Martin Luther King's death, and the student beside me in class laughed. How I wish that the human race had tamed its demons during the past half century! Instead, we have the ugly legacy of Donald Trump. Dear God and the Statue of Liberty, please help us rescue ourselves.
The memory of Dr King has become tainted. We no longer follow his dream of a person being judged by the content of their being but now are judged by the color of their skin. The same as it was before the civil rights movement. The woke generation and the educators that indoctrinate the young instill that if you are a person of color you are oppressed and if you are white you are a racist. The democrats are leading us back to before the civil rights movement and before too long will be requiring segregated schools. Minnesota recently required that the first people being treated for Covid would be non white, they stopped that, but that goes to show just what the democrats are trying to do. They are the party of George Wallace, Bull Connor, Jefferson Davis and the people called Dixiecrats. Dr King would not recognize what has happened to his dream.
MLK represent freedom for all people, not a select few. Voting rights to all people, not a few. Equality for all people, not a few. Justice for all people, not a few. Freedom from suppression for all people, not a few. Freedom of speech for all people, not a few. Freedom to assemble for all people, not a few. Human right for all people, not just a few, He had a dream for all people, not for just a few. That all people are created equal and no one is above the law. To this day, Republican Party votes against everything Martin Luther King stood for, the advancement all American people, not just a few! Republicans mock MLK by their quotation of him, but in their action they do just the opposite. 217 house republicans voted against the John Lewis bill and voting right act. Democratic look more like American, with all the diversity, discussions and opinions. They embrace other’s cultures, religion and ethnic groups views and opinions. They believe in women rights of self determination and happiness. They believe truth matters!
Although I am for more days of service I personally believe the true meaning of the mission of MLK was to live everyday as if your life could be of service not for yourself but for others, especially the least of these. Equal rights, equal justice for all. It should become so common that when it becomes a habit or a norm one does not even notice it because it is a value or character. One small tide working together can become an even larger stronger current. Live as if everyday is a day of service and even at times a sacrifice to others.
Yes, there should be more Federal Holidays, particularly "Voting Day".
As a Baptist Preacher, MLK would most likely People honor his legacy, and continue his mission, including saving lost souls rather than honoring him, the Man.
On this Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, let us only hear words from politicians reaffirming their commitment to equality and the voting rights of all American citizens, and nothing else. This was the cause Dr. King placed at the top of his agenda, along with justice for the poor, and so on this day let us hear what these politicians will do to advance the cause. If they want to quote Dr. King today, let these politicians also be judged by the content of their characters. I know that I will be judging Rep. Lamb, Senator Casey, and Senator Toomey on their characters and what they have done for the poor, the voting rights of all, and the minorities of this country today. And I see who they are.
Yes but we also need voting rights act and george Floyd justice in policing act to pass! More crazy…not crazy but more back to the past worshiping and nostalgia despite the Internet and billionaires civilians taking rocket ship rides to the edge of space but you want 1900s Jim Crow on earth 🤦♂️ First in day in office and VA Governor banned CRT and mask mandates! Critical Race Theory (CRT) focuses on the idea that the legacy of slavery affects American society through the manner in which this legacy influences American laws and policies. Although there has been little evidence to suggest schools in the US teach in K-12 CRT, Republicans in state legislatures have crafted legislation banning it and railed against it on the campaign trail. This campaign is similar to election voting laws to suppress the vote, and affordable healthcare is socialism. Mask mandates instead of protecting personal liberties (contrary to the right to vote)! Yep I said it, election was not stolen, sweeping laws suppress voting rights and since when did wearing masks kill people! Police murder but no Justice in Policing bill passed! No voting rights bill passed! Any education discussion of sins of the past swept away; slavery didn’t happen nor the holocaust; or Asian internment camps or labor to build railroads?? So it’s no coincidence that campaigns to revert back to a 1950s era where white men freely lynched without accountability, race purification status quo and segregation were and is held in high esteem. Not angry just confused over the ready made silence and acceptable for so many but themselves on a higher level because of their “majority” and quest to MAGA!
It is appalling and putrid to see so many know so little, speak so much, and only display their lack of understanding of both American History and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. it is advisable that ALL who state BS about Democrats, klan, slavery, origins get to 1964 up to today recognize where southern racist democrats went, gop, PERIOD! Don’t need “Critical Race Theory” to read and understand truth. gop has become gqp full of tRumplikkklans/racists and domestic terrorists/traitors/betrayers of America, Americans, and Democratic ideals! Let’s begin with truth and go from there. I digress! There should be a MANDATORY requirement that ALL 18-26 yr olds serve 2 years of service to the country and pass a Civics course! Service(tbd) may be in any area that fosters productive results for the country and the individual. America deserves the investment of citizens by commitment/voting, protecting our Democracy, and our people, and our space, FROM ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC, NO EXCEPTIONS! Lastly, noticed two “no” comments that were identical about 8 hrs apart? Would hope for singular discourse! Dr King sought a better coexistence for us all. Please respect that and speak of the humanity of diversity and its continuing importance in the development of America rather than hollow dictations and platitudes of no context acceptance or understanding of who Dr King was or what he stood for! Thank you for showing who you are. I appreciate that!
The medias fixation on racism, when it isn’t racism, is doing race relations more damage than good.
