How You Can Help Victims of the Colorado Wildfires
Join us and spread the word to your community
What’s the story?
- The state of Colorado experienced the most devastating wildfire in its history, which broke out on December 30th and damaged or destroyed more than 900 homes in Boulder County. An estimated 35,000 people were displaced by the Marshall Fire and Middle Fork Fire, and two people were still missing as of Monday.
- The blaze moved quickly across grassy prairies into the wildland-urban interface, charring subdivisions in the towns of Superior and Louisville. The area was in the midst of a severe drought and a regional wind event with gusts of 75 to over 100 mph heightened the fire danger. Known as “Chinook” or “Foehn” winds, such windstorms can be generated as warm, dry air moves down the slopes of mountains, in this case, the Front Range in the Rocky Mountains. In the days since the fire, the area has been blanketed with heavy snow.
How you can help
- A number of national and local organizations are providing relief in areas impacted by the wildfire:
- The American Red Cross opened shelters in the area and has about 100 volunteers on-site in Boulder County with another 30 people helping to consolidate and coordinate resources. The American Red Cross of Colorado and the national organization are accepting donations for disaster relief.
- Colorado Gives and the Community Foundation of Boulder County are accepting financial donations through a Wildfire Fund that has raised over $10 million as of January 3rd.
- Boulder Beat has aggregated resources for donating money, providing housing, and volunteering. It also has information about the types of donations needed for those in the community and a variety of resources for those who lost homes or have been displaced.
- The Northwest Chamber Alliance, part of the Colorado Chamber of Commerce, created a centralized webpage with information related to federal and state aid for impacted businesses, local resources, and donation information.

It’ll help when Republicans and Conservatives pack their things and move to red states won by the ex-President where the happiness they seek will be found. I say this because they have caused global warming and climate change as a way to own people who they think aren’t real Americans
RESPONSE TO AN OFF TOPIC POST Expressing grievance and outrage based on lies is getting tiresome and is not endearing! But I'm sure there's an audience for it. @Donald, (original comment pasted below) Here, if you are looking for help, provide facts with citations. If you were looking to vent, the exhaust fans are on, and the HEPA Filters have been running full blast so the room has been cleared of the vile stench At best, you might be making an overly broad assertion relevant only to some particular community. But I doubt there’re are any supporting facts IRL. Breaking it down, you claim • Teachers' Unions have too much power? Which ones? Where? When? How so? • Teachers' Unions received money to upgrade schools. Absurd! Money goes to school districts. They decide & make upgrades. Unions can advocate, little more. Their arguments need substantial public support to get anywhere. • Teachers cut to the front of the line for COVID shots. Absurd Again! In any community, IF teachers were given prioritized shots (and you have not proven that), it was a city or state decision. Many in a given community—parents & business would support a decision to prioritize the teachers after, say, front-line workers, the those at risk, and the elderly. Presumably, it would be to enable teachers to do their jobs. • "We all got PLAYED...." Sorry you feel like that. I certainly don't. But you should do some fact-checking and return with substance. Grievance based on lies is getting tiresome. A better set of related discussions would center around the pros and cons of unions and union-like organizatiins, how unions govern themselves (autoctratic to republic), and the efforts by business to disparage unions for spurious reasons all based in elitism and greed. @Donald wrote: "Causes .com will not make this a topic, But here we go the Teachers unions, you remember them, (it's for the children group) have much too much power in the last two years they received so much money for Covid19 to upgrades to schools, they cut in front of the line for Covid shots, but they ( the unions) will not go back to work, We all got PLAYED...."
Thank you Causes for links to the organizations helping those in Colorado affected by this fire.
Sad the need is great. Republicans and Trump would say they need to do Forest management and climate change is a hoax, plus Trump would throw out paper towels. It’s only going the get worse and Mother Nature is piss! BBB support the human infrastructure like this, but most was gutted because Republicans view it has entitlement and two democrats. We need to do better at supporting the human infrastructure, we have no problem supporting military $800+ billions plus another $800 billion in discretionary funds. We run to failure on all infrastructure. Why? Giving to help people in need and donate, is good, but I guess this is the new business plan for the future for government, it’s the same as corporation business plan for healthcare, retirement, social program, no backup or reserve. Other than, the government is corporations businesses plan that don’t want to support, but did support fund the insurrection, the big lie and the tax cut for corporations How’s CA doing? BBB would help them as well.
In a larger sense there is nothing to be done to help those affected by the latest Colorado fire. We would have needed to do that a decade ago. The failure of the evil American government, and the failure of the world to do something about climate change ensures that. And Nero fiddled while Rome burned…
I live in the affected area. My oldest has lost his house, ours was damaged, but we are alive. And we will rebuild because our family is strong. The police and fire departments were awesome. They remained calm amidst the chaos when we had to evacuate. Climate change is real, no matter how much some ppl may deny it. It can happen anywhere, and it will. And that’s the sad truth.
Causes .com will not make this a topic, But here we go the Teachers unions you remember them, (it's for the children group) have much too much power in the last two years they received so much money for Covid19 to upgrades to schools, they cut in front of the line for Covid shots, but they ( the unions) will not go back to work, We all got PLAYED....
Wow, a cause that means something for a change.
Find a Colorado State donation site and give a money donation. Do not donate old clothes or junk you wanted to get rid of. That will not help no one but you.
Jim2423 after working in relief efforts in Lake Charles Louisiana after two major Hurricanes in the same month and some of these people lost everything except the clothes on their back I can tell you our motorcycle club first collected from all over the state and even Nationally gifts cards that were preloaded Visa cards in the $25-$50 range. One chapter sent five $100 cards as a donation. My wife and I out of the disaster zone accounted for and took the cards every three days the 120 mile round trip to Lake Charles as the mail service hadn’t started delivery to homes as the roads were blocked all over town. With each trip we brought 12 gallons of bleach and other cleaning supplies and cloth rages and sponges and pails for cleaning. The Chapter Director would meet us in her van and trailer to accept the gift cards and supplies. Starting in the second week we added personal toiletries items like bars of soap toothpaste and toothbrushes and combs still bringing more cards. Gas stations weren’t open and most stores because of no electricity. Some stores that could set up items for sale in front of the buildings. By the 16th day I loaded up the trailer with USED CLOTHES used shoes and some kitchen supplies like pans and pots. My wife and I bought 10 hibachi grills and 10 bags of charcoal and charcoal starter fluid. The food supplies we brought were those that didn’t need to be cooked or were like ramen noodles or canned soups which could be cooked over an open fire but didn’t need refrigerated as there was no electricity. Not one person complained about receiving used clothes as some had their clothes on for over two weeks. They were actually work clothes as there was lots to clean up. The chapter in Lake Charles was about 50 members. I made a promise that after delivery of the hibachi’s that in three days I would return with 25 steaks that would feed 50 people or more. Our butcher gave us 12 more free steaks as his donation once he found out why I was buying that many steaks. He also gave me a 25% discount on the steaks that I paid for. I went to Sam’s and bought 10 pounds of potato salad and 2 gallons of baked beans and made a five gallon bucket of toss salad and five types of dressing. I notified the chapter director and she had the people that received the hibachi grills and a couple of people that had portable grills to bring them to a local church that opened their gym for the dinner. So many people showed up for a real meal it was great to be a part of it. I brought along paper plates cups bowls plus silverware and one local church group sent canned soda’s. My point is people in need don’t expect brand new clothing just clean serviceable cloths shoes and boots. Now underwear should be new. When it was over we all that made donations felt pretty good we could help in their time of need. So do as requested and give a hand up to these folks. I was able to get donations of 50 cases of bottled water that filled part of my trailer up. We continued to receive those gift cards for over two months.
Besides $$$ if you can volunteer time or resources would be helpful - CO is beyond beautiful - unimaginable destruction- help if you can
