House to Vote on Forming January 6th Commission, Senate to Debate Research Package
How do you feel about this week’s congressional schedule?
What’s happening in Congress?
SENATE SCHEDULE
- The Senate starts its week Monday with a procedural vote to start the initial debate on the Endless Frontier Act, which is legislation to support new research investments in technologies critical to national security and economic competitiveness.
- The initial procedural vote will be subject to a 60 vote threshold and if it succeeds, the Senate will debate the bill and amendments that are offered over the next several days. Votes on any amendments would be announced during the week, and may also be subject to a 60 vote threshold.
- At the conclusion of the amendment debate, the Senate will take another procedural vote to limit further debate that’s subject to the 60 vote threshold prior to a vote on passage.
- Additional nominations or bills may be considered over the course of the week.
- Committees will hold hearings on funding and financing options for infrastructure, reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program, and judicial nominees.
HOUSE SCHEDULE
- The House convenes Monday for votes on 17 bills under the fast-track suspension of the rules process, which requires a two-thirds majority for passage. Monday’s agenda includes several bills related to the Dept. of Veterans Affairs and federal agencies involved with scientific research.
- Tuesday will feature votes on a resolution condemning the Atlanta spa shootings that occurred in March, a bill to expedite review of hate crimes, and several suspension bills, including a pair that aim to expand emergency medical supplies related to the pandemic.
- The rest of the week will include votes on a bill to close a loophole with patent exclusivity for profitable “orphaned” drugs (which failed with a simple majority on a suspension vote last week); plus bills to form a commission tasked with investigating the January 6th riot at the Capitol and provide appropriations to fund security measures.
- Additional items may be added to the schedule over the course of the week, given that when the House departs at the end of Thursday it won’t return to the Capitol for floor business until Monday, June 14th.
- Committees will hold hearings on the U.S.-Afghanistan relationship after the military withdrawal, oversight of banking regulators, and reforming the Capitol Police.
Check below throughout the week to see the vote results and updates to the schedule.

@Fthinker you right we have become cry baby nation, including you btw. So I say let's not have this commission, let's give the insurrectionists another opportunity to complete their previously stated task to over turn the duly elected government. I say let them have their dictator in chief and when he begins to not rule the way they wanted I say let them take up arms against the government again and overturn what they don't like. The difference is they will no longer be in a free republic, no sir. They will then have a dictator who controls the military, the courts and all the branches of government that kept you safe from the dictator. Then you will see why people leave other countries to come here. You will then be wishing you had the Republic that you agreed to overturn, because you have been ignoring the fact that all the things people complain about, such as social justice and equality for all is what makes this country better, not worst! We have debates, we have votes, we have educated discussions based on facts that helps us make the best decision for all the people. That's what the commission can provide! Wise up America!

The only problem is leftist Dimocrats will pad any such commission with anti-American losers while you idiots sit around picking your noses accepting that outcome because you're more interested in when your next welfare check arrives. Disgusting. I wish there was an efficient way to disburse you morons between the likes of Cuba, Russia, North Korea and China. You don't belong here.
McConnell comes out against Jan. 6 commission, imperiling its chances of becoming law https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/mcconnell-comes-out-against-jan-6-commission-imperiling-its-chances-of-becoming-law/2021/05/19/60de1f52-b8b3-11eb-a5fe-bb49dc89a248_story.html Terrified of exposing the Big Lie, Mitch? Convinced of how your Lord, Master and Savior, Donald J. Trump will have been shown to have been involved. Republicans are further down the road to advocating America becoming a Putinesque Corrupt Autocracy.
GOP, opposed to investigating. All the more reason there needs to be a thorough one! This is the excuse Democrats needed to form an independent council and leave the Republicans their time to reflect their involvement to the crimes!
Excited to see what this comes out to!
This is a no-brainer. I can’t believe this even a question.
Always glad to see congress actually working. The proof of the pudding will be what passes. The January 6 commission is a must, but it will be interesting to see how much control Trump has over his minions. So far they are towing his line… mindless as they are.
Some right leaning persons behaved shamefully on that day. We are a country of millions. There are wing nuts on both ends of the spectrum (note the Antifa crazies and the BLM outliers.) There are bad actors out there and violators of the law should be prosecuted... be they left or right leaning. --- There was no grand right wing conspiracy fomented by conservative leadership. We as a country give to much attention to the extremes on both ends.
This commission is more Democrat Political Theater and another my stab at President Donald Trump. Our 3 letter agencies are already well under way to holding those involved with the Capitol breach, with over 400 arrests and pending litigation. Trump's speech on the mall incited nothing. His speech was only about telling Republican voters to stay engaged or get in engaged to protect America's FREEDOM from Socialism and Marxism. If our country wasn't so appealing, the way it is, we wouldn't see 170,000 per month ILLEGALLY penetrate our southern boarder.
When we have a violate attack on one of our nations houses, why would anyone vote to NOT investigate in a bipartisan manner! It should be fully investigated. And I would hope all of my lawmakers support this! If they do not, I would consider it as an act of being complying with traitors.
After being away for a bit I suppose I shouldn't be surprised to see that some of the regular posters to this site have officially slipped off the rails of reason - maybe even sanity. Blinded by the insidious disease of leftism you actually believe that conservative minded Americans are stunting our country's progress. In actuality, the progress you speak of whether you realize it or not is a movement toward a one party system. You've actually reached a point where you've been sold on the notion that those that share your view can control the climate, cure all social ills and create paradise for everyone on earth. In reality, you've been played by a small number of elitist lefties who seek to control everything. And the CCP caused pandemic has provided a catalyst to rapidly advance that mission. Sadly, some of you don't even hear yourselves accuse others of exactly the wayward actions exercised by your party. Communist propagandists have sucked you in like a carny barker to believing that everything is wrong with America. The "woke", the "resetters", the "re-imaginers" are all reaching graduate status with the plan to simply undo America and make the CCP the world's dominant power. Some of you have a lot of homework to do so I'll close out these thoughts. You might want to consider that the news you're reading or (mostly) watching isn't really news. Agenda editors are shaping your thoughts, dispelling truths, censoring free speech, and basically feeding you a bag of dog turds.
This is past and distracts from fixing more immediate issues. No matter the result of any commission, would it really change any minds? Why not just release all the video withheld or the circumstances of the one person shot, etc? Or refute the claim of the fire extinguisher attack on the guard and how that got started, then allowed to continue. I felt local news coverage was more accurate at the time than the major networks/cable.
If people don’t support this it is evidence that they just want to pretend it never happened and these insurrectionists were simply tourists
Does anyone with half a brain doubt that Kevin mcarthy is a traitor to the constitution and American democracy? To oppose an investigation into January 6 th attempted insurrection and attack on our democracy is an attack on our freedoms and the constitution. McCarthy needs to be removed from congress. Then he can focus on sucking up to Trump. That seems to be his only purpose in life. Vote the traitors and enemies of freedom out of office. Make no mistake. The republicans who defend Trump and his abuses are enemies of the people of the United States and of freedom
Don’t forget the Congresswoman, too, Colleen! I won’t name them. Don’t want to give them ANY attention, which they sooooo crave!
Now the Republicans are trying to put the brakes on the investigation bot McCarthy and McDonnell are in opposition to bringing out the truth of what happened! The videos of the day should how scared they were, but now they talk like the mob were tourists! The moral backbone of the Republican Party have left with no sign of return! With these falsehoods how can you trust the Republicans on anything?
Fthunker: I am truly saddened by your inability to read. The proof of what I said is evidenced in the arrest reports and records from those rioting to discredit peaceful BLM protestors, as I and others have reported many times in the past. The fact that the RNC was publicly soliciting white nationalist/supremacist and providing guidance in ways to intimidate with their weapons without crossing the line of illegality - in order to disrupt democratic functions and illegally intimidate voters at polling sites as was widely reported about a year ago, the trump’s refusal to condemn any of their actions and to spread the widely disproven false narrative that BLM and ANTIFA groups were radical and violent, the trump’s refusal to stop the insurrectionists until they had done their damage and then his farewell kiss to them because he loved them. The fact that the Republican Party and the trump can bold face lie about so much so often and that the cultists can accept this behavior is beyond disgusting. Now, go off and do your own reading and do not make comments that have no basis in fact. Perhaps you enjoy trolling others with your nonsense and taunts. That is on you and frankly, you are no longer worth the time it takes to respond to your taunts,
👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️😊😊, Marylynn!
Fthinker: Want to hear one thing positive about America? Our country has the potential to be as great as it once was - as soon as the country is governed by officials elected by the majority of voters instead of being dominated by the minority of the voters, who by somewhat nefarious means have been able to attain and retain political dominance able to push our country in directions that the majority of voters do not support. The conservative viewpoint is that this unbalance, where 25% of the population controls the Senate is somehow right and proper. This country has no hope to catch up to the twenty first century world when politically dominated by those who refuse to deal with the future and hold on to their outdated perspectives. We will all remain at risk, and continue to fall behind the rest of the world until this fundamental imbalance is rectified - and we eliminate the propensity of obstructing needed change instead of looking forward to anticipate needs and acting strategically.
