Georgia Republicans Pass Sweeping Voting Restrictions - Should More States?
Do you want your state to pass tighter voter restrictions?
What's the story?
- Georgia has become the first 2020 battleground state to pass sweeping legislation to roll back voting rights, despite no evidence of widespread fraud in November's election. President Joe Biden won the state by a mere 12,000 votes in November.
- Voting rights groups say the law will disproportionately disenfranchise voters of color. Several civil rights groups have already filed a lawsuit against Georgia officials.
- GOP politicians have proposed 253 laws, in 43 states, to restrict voting access, according to data compiled by the nonpartisan Brennan Center for Justice.
What are people saying?
- Republican Gov. Brian Kemp said during the signing Thursday:
"Few [bills] are more important than the law I signed moments ago" which ensures Georgia’s elections are "secure, accessible and fair."
- Georgia State Rep. Park Cannon (D) was arrested and forcibly removed from the Capitol for knocking on the door of Gov. Kemp as he signed the law.
- "It's like the Christmas tree of goodies for voter suppression," Democratic state Sen. Jen Jordan said on the Senate floor.
- During his first press conference Thursday, President Biden called GOP efforts to restrict voting in states like Georgia "pernicious, "un-American," and "sick."
- But Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) claimed during a hearing Wednesday that Democrats' voting rights bill - the "For the People Act" - is unnecessary because "states are not engaging in trying to suppress voters whatsoever."
What does the new law do?
- Imposes new ID requirements
- Limits the use of ballot drop boxes
- Allows challenges to voting eligibility
- Changes early voting hours
- Prohibits third parties from collecting absentee ballots
- Criminalizes attempts to provide food and water to voters in line
- Makes it easier for state officials to take over local elections
- "[R]eplace[s] the elected secretary of state as the chair of the state election board with a new appointee of the legislature after Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger rebuffed Trump’s attempts to overturn Georgia’s election results," AP writes.

Face it...all this is is another attempt to tamper with the ballots! Then the fact that this group is Qanon?! What the f***!?! All secretly counting ballots and marking them? Hush hush! That is not how this works...ever in our history! This ninja guy? Who the hell in their right mind allows this huge scam to happen!?! It's plain and simple to see what's going on here and you're telling me no one is stopping it!?! Again...what the f***!?! The law is the law! The country voted...ballots were counted...multiple times in certain places...it was all confirmed and this shit scam is being allowed!?! This f***ing batshit crazy nutjob problem needs to be controlled one way or another. I don't care how but just do it! Our country is an embarrassment to the world because f***ing batshit crazy nutjobs are running this country into the ground and no one has the balls to stop it! It is only going to get a hell of a lot worse if no one stops this shit now!!!
Voting restrictions are being put in place by Republicans around the country.....Now, some whackadoodle firm that has been hired to recount votes in Arizona's Maricopa County ....but.....ONLY the votes where a Republican did NOT win. Cyber Ninja is the name of the group...a group which has Qanon leanings.....They are not allowing ANY journalists into the count...the only one there is "One America" a very 'conservative" group.....In Arizona there has already been 2 or 3 recounts (including one by hand) and Pres. Biden was "certified" as president by a board that included 4 Republicans......Bringing in a private group....with NO experience.....and letting the count be done with NO transparency is MOB tactics....the old "keep recounting the votes 'til we get the tally we want"....and now, it looks to may be going to happen in Michigan as well. Since when, did OUR ballots just get handed over to God knows what kind of group.......Sen. Stabenaugh and Peters please scream long and loud about this....and Cong. McClain....if you have ANY integrity at all...please do the same.
Very concerned about any restrictions on all citizens foundational right to vote. States should be encouraging all access to voting participation making it as easy as possible, expanding rights, voting dates, voting sites, easy methods, not making restrictions, long lines, limiting locations, & restricting services to voters standing in lines whose will is the entire purpose of the voting process.
1. ID requirements to vote are necessary and needed to be law. 2. No drop boxes were included in prior law, so law should designate. 3. Challenges should always be allowed. There are poll workers to do that. 4. Early voting hours were not changed. Biden was wrong to state that. 5. Third parties should not collect ballots. They can be easily destroyed. 6. There should be no drinks or food given to voters in line. There are rules for electioneering to be 150 feet from voters. Water only can be provided by the voting housing site. 7 State officials cannot make rules for voting. It must be done by the legislature only.
More voting laws to restrict voting corruption.
Thankful that Missouri has protected the integrity of the voter and hope all states insure the same security that everyone that is eligible can vote, while preventing illegal voting. It is amazing that the same people who dislike having to show picture ID or proof of residency / eligibility to vote - don't protest about having to show the same type of ID or more to do the following. 1. Buy Alcohol 2. Buy Cigarettes 3. Opening a bank account or do other business with your account. 4. Apply for food stamps 5. Apply for welfare 6. Apply for Medicaid/Social Security 7. Apply for unemployment or a job 8. Rent/buy a house, apply for a mortgage 9. Drive/buy/rent a car 10. Get on an airplane 11. Get married 12. Purchase a gun 13. Adopt a pet 14. Rent a hotel room 15. Apply for a hunting license 16. Apply for a fishing license 17. Buy a cell phone 18. Visit a casino 19. Hold a rally or protest 20. Blood donations 21. Purchase certain cold medicines. And some of the same people are advocating that people may have to show "vaccine cards" to go into many of the above places - and those same cards are going to become the newest black market items people will be buying. ** Let's invest funds and effort to help people, that qualify for state IDs to be able to get them. I work with many people who have lost all ID due to home fires, disasters, and theft - and it is difficult to get it replaced. Help with the replacements instead of doing away with the requirements!
