John McClane foils a terrorist plot executed during a Christmas party in Los Angeles.
Some consider Die Hard a classic Christmas movie.
Others say the film is only set during Christmas, but not actually a Christmas movie (as compared to, say, Home Alone and Elf).
What say you? Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?

Well, McClane, at least, is in the spirit of the holiday. The first person he takes out is Tony, as they stumble down a flight of stairs during a fight early in the film. John sends Tony’s body down to Hans in an elevator, wearing a Santa hat and the message of “Now I have machine gun. Ho, ho, ho” on his shirt. Also the final line of the film, from Argyle, the limousine driver: "If this is their idea of Christmas, I *gotta* be here for New Year's."
Best question Causes has ever asked.
One of my favorite Christmas movies!!
As a school teacher for 39 years, Christmas is a time to reflect on our blessings and guide our children toward compassion and generosity. To distract from those values in this season with a movie which has none of those Seasonal characteristics is certainly not worthy of calling it a Christmas-time movie. Will it entertain - yes; however, that’s not reason to title for Christmas time! It does NOT merit a Christmas time footnote!
Yes it is. We can only dream about giving it to the criminals who have us in their grip.
Christmas is the setting. Nothing more. It conveys neither the spirit nor the reason for Christmas.
Just because I'm movie is set at Christmas time doesn't necessarily make it a Christmas movie. Then again, I don't celebrate Christmas so I'm not really sure I care. Have a happy holiday to those who do.
CAUSES ASKS: "What say you? Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?" ME: I say, "Nope." Christmas movies are warm and fuzzy with a bit of magic -- think "It's A Wonderful Life.'
Dumbest discussion ever....but no.
Any movie that takes place entirely within Christmas season is a Christmas movie!
