Congress made quick use of the seven-day stopgap spending package they passed on Friday to avert a government shutdown by reaching a deal over the weekend to fund the government through the end of September to the tune of $1.1 trillion.
The House begins its week on Monday with votes on a number of suspension bills, including legislation to strengthen sanctions on North Korea for its nuclear weapons program and human rights abuses and another to improve small businesses' access to funding. It will then vote on more suspensions Tuesday, along with a more controversial bill to give private sector workers the ability to choose paid time off instead of overtime. On Wednesday or Thursday, a vote on the omnibus spending bill will occur, as will a vote on the bill to repeal and replace Obamacare if House Republicans feel they have enough votes.
The Senate also convenes on Monday, and will start its week by considering the nomination of Jay Clayton to be a member of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Its agenda for the rest of the week is to be determined, although a vote on the omnibus spending bill will be necessary before the seven-day stopgap expires Friday night.
