Where is My Stimulus Check?
Use the IRS "Get My Payment" app to find the status.
With the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) processing the coronavirus economic impact payments provided under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, you might be wondering where your check is. Here’s how to find out:
Tax-Filers
If you filed a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and it has been processed, you can use the IRS “Get My Payment” tool to check the status. After verifying your identity, the tool will display one of the following statuses:
- Payment Status (one of two statuses): 1) A payment has been processed, a payment date is available, and payment is to be sent by direct deposit or mail; or 2) You are eligible, but a payment has not been processed and a payment date is not available. If a payment date isn’t provided, updates to your payment status are made no more than once per day so there’s no need to check back more frequently.
- Need More Information: You are eligible for a payment, but we do not have your direct deposit information. You will be given the opportunity to provide your bank information once you have properly verified your identity. Direct Deposit is the fastest way to get your payment.
- Payment Status Not Available: The IRS cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time. For example, you either didn’t file a 2018 or 2019 tax return, you recently filed and the return has not been fully processed.
In some cases, “Payment Status Not Available” will be displayed if:
- You aren’t eligible for a payment (check this page or the IRS site for eligibility details);
- You are required to file a tax return in tax year 2018 or 2019 but haven’t filed;
- You recently filed your return or provided information through the tool for non-filers & your payment status will be updated once processing is completed; or
- You are a recipient of Supplemental Security Income or Veterans Affairs benefits and the IRS is working with your agency to issue your payment, but your information isn’t yet available in the “Get My Payment app.
Non-Filers
- If you aren’t required to file a tax return and didn’t file a return in either 2018 or 2019, you may not be able to access the “Get My Payment” tool depending on your specific circumstances.
- If the IRS system isn’t able to verify your identity through your responses to the required security questions, you won’t be able to use the “Get My Payment” tool.
