What's the story?
- Senators have so-far remained silent as House impeachment managers and Trump's defense team made their cases on whether to convict or acquit President Donald Trump. Now, senators have taken the floor to explain why they're casting their upcoming vote.
- House managers argued that the Senate should convict Trump on two articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
- Some Republicans are conceding that President Trump may have withheld Ukraine aid in exchange for investigations but that this is not an impeachable offense.

- Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) opened the debate urging senators to acquit the president, arguing that Democrats "don’t get to rip the choice away from the voters just because they’re afraid they might lose again."
"We must vote to reject the House abuse of power, vote to protect our institutions, vote to reject to new precedents that would reduce the framers' design to rubble, vote to keep factional fever from boiling over and scorching our republic," he said on the Senate floor. "I urge every one of our colleagues to cast the vote the facts, the evidence, the Constitution and the common good clearly require. Vote to acquit the president of these charges."
Where are we now?
