What’s the story?
- The GOP will soon investigate the whistleblower who set off the impeachment proceedings and the Biden family, according to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC).
- “The Senate Intel committee under Richard Burr has told us that we will call the whistleblower,” Graham said on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures.
“Why is it important? I want to know how all this crap started.”
- Graham added:
“If the whistleblower is a former employee of [or] associate of Joe Biden, I think that would be important. If the whistleblower was working with people on [Rep. Adam] Schiff’s staff that wanted to take Trump down a year-and-a-half ago, I think that would be important,” Graham said.
- President Trump was impeached by the House for abusing his power and obstructing Congress. The Senate will soon vote on whether the president leveraged Congressionally-approved military aid to Ukraine in exchange for investigations into 1) former vice president Joe Biden and his son, Hunter; 2) a debunked conspiracy theory alleging Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election.
- Hunter Biden was on the board of Ukrainian gas company Burisma. Ethics watchdogs criticized Hunter’s position as a conflict of interest for his father—at the time, then-vice president Joe Biden was working to crack down on corruption in Kiev. Worth noting: Hunter has never been accused of wrongdoing regarding his work with the company.
“Let me tell Republicans out there. You should expect us to do this. If we don’t do it, we’re letting you down,” Graham said of the probes.
