What’s the story?
- Newly-released text messages reveal Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas discussing how to stalk “that b***” Marie Yovanovitch in Ukraine in a bid to get her fired.
- A lawyer for the former U.S. ambassador told MSNBC Tuesday that an investigation should be launched into whether she was monitored in Kiev.
“[T]he notion that American citizens and others were monitoring Amb. Yovanovitch's movements for unknown purposes is disturbing. We trust that the appropriate authorities will conduct an investigation.”
- Yovanovitch testified in November about how she was ousted in her position following a Giuliani-led smear campaign that accused her of working to subvert President Donald Trump’s Ukraine policy and being close to former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko.
What's in the documents?
The documents contain text message exchanges between Parnas and Robert Hyde, a Republican congressional candidate and Trump donor.
Here's one exchange, per the documents:
Hyde: "If you want her out, they need to make contact with security forces. They know she’s a political puppet. They will let me know when she's on the move … They are willing to help if you/we would like a price. ... Guess you can do anything in Ukraine with money… what I was told."
Parnas: "LOL."
Another exchange:
What's the response?
- Hyde tweeted a criticism of House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) after the committee released the documents Tuesday.
