This powerful song and message from award-winning songwriters, Grant Maloy Smith and Mike Greenly challenge us to consider how we think about, and treat, the older adult population. Do we really see older people for who they are, and value their skills, talent and wisdom?
Last month, the “I See You” campaign encouraged people to make eye contact with older adults and offer a greeting, look for opportunities to engage them in meaningful conversation, and call out ageism when it occurs. It’s not too late to participate.
To join phase two of the “I See You” campaign, sign the petition pledging to:
- Share your stories of interacting with an older person. (Tell your story in the comments below or leave a video message.)
- Carry out a random act of kindness toward an older person.
- Ask an older person to share his or her story, or a bit of wisdom, with you.
