What do the digital content industry and the senior living profession have in common? Not much on the surface, but opposites do attract. Enter, Eloy Lopez, Masterpiece Living’s new Chief Operating Officer.
Lopez enjoyed tremendous success as a business operations and technology leader. He’s the founder and former President and COO of Beatport, a direct-to-consumer digital music company that grew from $2.2 million in 2006 to $9.1 million in 2007, and $20.3 million in 2008, garnering him the Fastest Growing Company award two consecutive years in a row in the Denver Business Journal, and Billboard Magazine’s 30 Under 30 award in 2007.
During his time at Beatport, he successfully led the day-to-day operations and development of a proprietary technology content platform to support the growth of content providers to more than 10,000 independent partners, reaching a global consumer audience in over 120 countries, and annual revenues of more than $39 million. He then served as President and COO of Digitally Imported, spearheading a business plan that accelerated revenue by 490%, and grew paid unique subscribers by 257% in one year.
Masterpiece Living, founded in 1999 by Chairman and CEO Larry Landry, has long been a leader in the senior living field for its research-based, data-driven outcomes, and for the educational resources it provides to organizations, its team members and residents. Masterpiece Academy and Masterlife later formed as offshoots of Masterpiece, designed to reach all organizations who work with an older adult population, as well as independent consumers within their homes.
When Larry Landry reached out to Eloy Lopez about joining the Masterpiece team, Lopez was – admittedly – a little skeptical. “Several years ago, I reached a transition point in my life,” Lopez explained. “I knew that I wanted to work in the health and wellness industry, and it needed to be something that helped people in a meaningful way.” At first, he wasn’t sure how a transition into the aging services industry would fit that goal, but he took the meeting with Landry, anyway.
“We pride ourselves on being innovative, and sometimes that means making connections and taking leaps that others might be afraid to,” Landry said. What Landry saw in Lopez was his ability to leverage his technology and operations experience to reach more people through both business-to-business and business-to-consumer initiatives that highlight Masterpiece Living, Masterpiece Academy and MasterLife … just what the company needs as it’s entering its next phase of growth.
Once the two met, the pieces fell into place and Lopez began to understand Landry’s vision for the company. “I understand technology and operations,” Lopez shared. “I have the experience of knowing what technology can do, and how to use to it expand Masterpiece’s reach, making it accessible to a global market. To me, that’s exciting.”
