There’s one BIG name missing as co-sponsor of the Equality Act: U.S. Congressman Dan Lipinski of Illinois
Under the Equality Act, LGBTQ people would have guaranteed, across-the-board protections in their everyday lives. A person’s sexual orientation or gender identity would be added as a protected class that would prevent any form of discrimination at the workplace, at home, or any other public venue – such as a pharmacy or school.
About 70% of Illinoisans support adding nondiscrimination protections for the 425,000 LGBTQ people in the state, and yet, Congressman Lipinski remains silent.
Lipinski’s support for the Equality Act could send a much-needed statement to Illinoisans that all people – regardless of who you are or love – are welcome in the state.
