Sign the Petition to

Nomvula Paula Mokonyane the environmental affair minister in south Africa

We the undersigned demand that you put more funding and assistance and aid to the park rangers to help in stopping poachers and create a safer environment for the effected elephants and all wildlife This is important as these poached animals are an iconic and have been a part of human history

If these suggestions are put into effect, then we would see drastic drop in poached animal numbers with poachers being too afraid with such harsh consequences to face. it would also make it harder for poachers with the rangers having the new technology and the knowledge to rapidly respond with the necessary force and be able to prevent the poaching from occurring

Your government will be judged on its ability to take on a global issue head on We urge you to act quickly In addition, by focusing the time and resources on this issue you would show the world that that they need to take the necessary actions on this matter as well

We trust that you will act promptly on this matter.

The two continents most affected by elephant poaching is Asia and Africa statistics show that the African elephant, more than 100,000 of which were killed between 2014 and 2017 for ivory. Poaching has also had a catastrophic impact on rhinos, with more than a thousand slaughtered a year for their horns. Elephant horns are very rare to come across and are in very high demand, just a single pound of ivory can sell for $1,500, and tusks can weigh 250 pounds. At the current stage there is very small groups of forest rangers who do not have the equipment to properly inhibit poachers nearly 600 rangers charged with protecting wildlife were gunned down by poachers between 2009 and 2016 while in the line of duty. In my opinion poaching should be completely irradiated and those who break the rules will pay a harsh punishment

To make a change you and your fellow environmental ministers need to spend more money on Equpment such as monitoring stations that can be constantly monitored and have response teams that can be on call when there is signs of poachers your government could also help by creating a safe area where poachers cannot access and the endangered animals can be safe, also by funding more wild animal treatment centres we could rehabilitate he effected animals

If you and your fellow ministers do not start putting funding in the right places we could see projections of 200,000 elephants poached in the coming years

Colby Gerbing
