Dear Leeanne Enoch,
I wish to help reduce gas emissions to diminish coral bleaching in the Great Barrier Reef. It is important to support this issue because emissions are slowly killing our reefs and hurting our ecosystem. I would like you, Leeanne Enoch, to consider implementing a large scale tree planting campaign across Queensland throughout green spaces. One tree can absorb as much as 1 ton of carbon dioxide before the time it reaches 40 years old. This will help us to rid our environment of some of our gas emissions, therefore it will help in the fight for our Great Barrier Reef. you would already know our beloved Great Barrier Reef is in grave danger and we need to act fast to stand a chance in its redemption. The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity study found that coral reefs generate up to $1.25 million per hectare from tourism, coastal protection, medical use and fisheries annually. In the last 30 years we have lost between 25 and 50 per cent of the world’s live coral, and it is predicted that by mid-century we could lose functional coral reef ecosystems across most of the world. Climate change is the greatest global threat to coral reef ecosystems. Without change over 47,000 people will be left without jobs. Gas emissions contribute to ocean acidification and increase ocean temperature. More acidic ocean waters delay or prevent coral growth and warmer waters cause coral bleaching. I would like to implement a mass scale tree planting campaign across Queensland throughout green spaces. With your help, we can assist in the decrease of greenhouse gas emissions and support the slowing down of global warming to help our Great Barrier Reef. In your roll as Minister for the Great Barrier Reef, you’re in the perfect position to make a change and save our reef. Please support my campaign and act today.

Yours sincerely,
Georgia Wharington
