I am writing to you to express my concern of overfishing in Australia. As the minister of the environment I would like to ask for you acknowledgement and support to make a change for overfishing. It is important for you to help me make a change as you play a big role in such problems and have knowledge on the major problem we face here in Australia regarding overfishing. I feel we have poor management and restrictions revolving around the fishing industry to the point of illegal fishing being had in our country due to unreported and unregulated fishing in our waters.
The issue at hand is overfishing, with the track we are on with overfishing we have already fished out 61% of the worlds fish stocks. We are fishing at a rate faster then the fish population can replenish its self. At the rate we are going we will have fished out our fish stocks by the year 2048. We require more marine reserves for fish to be preserved for the future years also benefiting the fishing industry by providing them with a future job.
If these actions are carried out correctly we are setting ourselves up for a future fishing industry, preserving our marine wildlife and well have a healthier eco system. Provided this issue is acted apon quickly there will be no more overfishing issues.
As you are the minister of the environment you are in the perfect position to make a difference/impact on the issue at hand. She has the ability to reach out to more industries within Australia to spared the word of overfishing to give our marine industry a future. I feel this responsibility comes back to you being the minister of the environment. You are able to comply with the legislation around our fishing industry and the future of Australia’s future fishing industry. I believe you should act now.
Yours sincerely,
Mitchell chessum
