Members of Congress

Since December, over 22 horses have died at the Santa Anita horse racing track alone. Unfortunately, this is just a small fraction of a national problem: horse racing is barely regulated and animal abuse and premature animal deaths are all too common in this sport. While Santa Anita voluntarily announced a slate of policies intended to improve animal conditions, no other horse racing track has agreed to implement Santa Anita's changes.

Horse racing is under regulated and under scrutinized. We refuse to stand by as horses are abused and their lives are shortened for the benefit of spectators' enjoyment. We are asking that you take action and establish reasonable oversight of the horse racing industry to avoid more horses losing their lives too early due to cruel conditions.

Signed,
