Sign the Petition to

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp

In a fair democracy, a candidate should not be in charge of administering an election that he or she is running in. That is why Secretary of State Brian Kemp -- Republican candidate for Governor of Georgia -- MUST recuse himself if there is a runoff in this year's gubernatorial election.

Republican Brian Kemp says he will not recuse himself as Georgia's chief elections officer even if his gubernatorial race with Democrat Stacey Abrams goes to a recount.

With just a razor-thin margin between Kemp and Abrams -- and over 77,000 ballots left to be counted -- it's possible that neither candidate will get over 50% of the vote. This would automatically trigger a runoff election in early December.

Kemp has made it clear to the people of Georgia (and the rest of the country) that he will not step down from his position should this happen. And given Kemp's history of voter suppression schemes -- like superfluous voter purges, polling place closures, and stalled voter registrations -- there is reason to suspect this election would not be conducted fairly under his oversight.

In order to preserve the integrity of our elections, Brian Kemp must recuse himself in the event of a runoff election for Governor of Georgia.
