Ocean Pollution is an increasing global issue literally washing up on our shores. In the past 50 years, records show a 51% gradual loss of corals in our very own Great Barrier Reef. Ocean Pollution is on our very own door step. I would like you to join my pledge and spread the word in not using plastic bags as a stat to help stop ocean pollution. Ocean Pollution is an increasing issue and the end starts with us.
70% of the Earth is ocean. 50-80% of Earths species is found in the oceans with a potential 50million unidentified species. This is why Ocean conservation needs to be of greater concern. Over 200 zones have been declared “dead zones” where no life organism can grow due to pollution. Each day 13,000-15,000 pieces of plastic are dumped into the ocean globally. Certain plastics absorb toxic chemicals which marine life unknowingly eat and die due to the toxic chemicals. Each year 100,000+ marine creatures are found dead due to plastic debris, that’s the ones found. Marine eco systems and marine life habitats are destroyed due to excessive pollution every day. Pesticides, fertilizers and other toxic land run offs are dumped straight into our extremely sensitive marine eco systems choking marine life intended to filter our waterways. Without thee toxic chemicals being filtered from our marine eco systems, marine life’s habitats are being destroyed and killing our marine animals. Due to pollutions in the water and marine habitats being destroyed, many tourist attractions such as the great barrier reef are being ruined leaving tourist companies out of business and ruining livelihoods.
My pledge of not using plastic bags will be a start to ending plastic bag pollution in our oceans as if they’re not used and disposed of incorrectly, they’re not polluted. Plastic bags are among the most accounted for pieces of ocean pollution killing hundreds of thousands of marine animals. By not using plastic bags, it’s a start to cleaner oceans with less plastic pollution and it starts with us.
You Mr Frydenburg are in a position of power to make a difference with this global issue. Your position with the Australian government is looked up to by millions of our population and others around the world and the people will listen to you. Not only will they listen to you, in your role as minister for Environment and Energy it is your responsibility to represent the Australian population and make a difference. Ocean Pollution is an increasingly large and detrimental global issue effecting not only marine life and marine ecosystems but large tourism industries. Make a call to action so your children and grandchildren can grow up with the amazing Oceans we’ve grown up with.

Signed,

David Manhire

Plastic bags are among of the

most accounted for pieces of plastic pollution in our oceans and are destroying marine ecosystems and killing our marine life. Not using plastic bags ensures they're not being disposed of incorrectly by the consumers and being polluted into our oceans.

Ocean conservation starts with you. If you start today, you can make a difference to the oceans tomorrow.

With more and more names on the petition, The Hon Josh Frydenburg will realise how the Australian people view the problem of ocean pollution and were ready to take a stand.
