Sign the Petition to

Malcomn Turnbull Prime Minister of Australia

My campaign is about protecting the world’s forests and all the animals that live in it. I believe you can help stop deforestation in our great country by lowering the amount of land we clear to make way for new development. This topic is very important and I strongly believe you should act on it but if we continue to destroy our forests the wildlife and human population of Australia and the rest of the world will die out.

This is a massive
issue in our community. The lack of trees are killing the eco system and leaving animals like the national icon the kookaburra without a home or food. Between 1990 and 2000, Australia lost an average of 325,900 hectares of forest per year. As of April 2009, around 8% of pre European settlement forest remains in original condition in Australia. About 5.5% of this is protected. Old growth forests also provide the most valuable carbon sinks in Australia. They can store up to 640 tonnes of carbon for every acre. This is one of the highest rates in the world. The continued logging of our old-growth forests represents 20% of Australia's total pollution emissions. This needs to change for three reasons. Over 5 million parrots, honeyeaters, robins and other land birds are killed each year by land clearing. For every 100 hectares of bush destroyed. Australia has lost more plants and mammals to extinction than any other country and has more threatened animals than 98% of the world's countries.  The co2 levels are dropping because of all the deforestation.
