Tom Daunt Aldi CEO

Dear Tom Daunt,

I am starting a campaign to get rid of factory farming because all animals are treated horrifically, this can endanger humans and the environment. Seeing that factory farming is so big and so many animals are involved I am asking you to stop stocking cage eggs and go completely free range. This would be easy for you to do as free range eggs can still be easily obtained. This important because the chicken spend their whole lives in horrendous conditions producing eggs for Aldi.

Factory farming is a worldwide issue that needs to be stopped. Because this is so big, I have decided to start with a focus on eggs. Cage chicken produce 250 to 300 eggs per year, this is an unnaturally high rate of egg-laying and it results in frequent disease. The chickens that lay these eggs are in 24/7 pain and then are killed. 95% of all egg-laying hens( nearly 300 million birds) spend their lives in battery cages so small they cannot even stretch their wings. Packed in at 5–10 birds per cage, they can only stand or crouch on the cages’ hard wires, which cut their feet painfully. In these maddening conditions, hens will peck one another from stress, causing injury and even death. Rather than give them more room, farmers cut off a portion of their sensitive beaks without painkillers. A chicken’s beak is loaded with nerve endings, more sensitive than a human fingertip. Many birds die of shock on the spot. In a natural environment, chickens can live 10 to 15 years, but chickens bred for egg-laying are slaughtered, gassed or even thrown live onto “dead piles” at just 12 to 18 months of age when their egg production decline.

By stocking only free range eggs you will make your customers happy by showing that you not support the factory farms. If a large company like Aldi, stops supporting the factory farms they will have to change to free range so they can keep making money. It will also increase the sale of the free range eggs at your stores If you change your ways you will show the public that you have stopped supporting the terrible treatment of these chickens. You are in a position of power to make this decision. If you do this you will affect the way people think off Aldi. You will show that you are an ethical company wwho cares about the welfare of the planet, people and animals. It is your responsibility to act because Aldi is a company that sells the eggs and support the factory farms. Stop factory farming no by only selling free range products.

Yours sincerely,
Nathan Rogers
