Mr Trevor Evans MP is an Australian politician. He is the member for Brisbane in the Australian House of Representatives. Party: Liberal National Party of Queensland

Dear Trevor Evans,

I have been researching koalas to find out why their numbers are rapidly decreasing. I found out that there is no law protecting koalas and that their habitats are being torn down leaving the koalas with no home. I am demanding action. I need you to help create a Koala Protection Law. This law will help protect koalas and their habitat. This is really important because koalas are a huge icon for Australia.
It is really important for you to help support us because we can’t do this on our own.
If we don’t create a law to protect koalas and keep cutting down trees we will lose lots more koalas. If that happens, we will lose a lot of tourists and our government will lose lots of money. About 75 percent of visitors to Australia say they wish to see koalas, who bring in an estimated $1 billion annually.
Australian Koala Foundation estimates that there are likely to be less than 80,000 Koalas remaining in Australia today and it could be as low as 43,000. Much of their habitat has already been lost. This makes it vitally important to save what is left.
Chlamydia is a disease that lives in most healthy koalas but it can also make the koalas sick when they get stressed. Koalas get stressed when their habitat is destroyed and, as a result, they have to cope with the dangers of cars, dogs and lack of food.
By creating a Koala Protection Act/ Law, this will help save the remaining koalas. If we can stop the trees from being cut down, we protect the habitat and thus the species.
Although the animal itself has been protected since 1936, its habitat really has not been protected at all. Habitat loss is the greatest threat to Koalas.
We need to reduce the amount of eucalypt trees that are getting cut down and help save our environment.
You should see the need to help, because koalas are important to Australia. You are in a position to make a difference, and we would love to help you make that difference. Koalas are a huge Australian icon, bringing a lot of tourism and money into Australia, while playing an integral part in the ecosystem.
We need a Koala Protection Act to help save the koalas because they are vulnerable and need saving. We are the ones that are hurting them by tearing down their habitat so they have nowhere safe to live, making them stressed and more likely to develop disease. We must be the ones to stop this and help them but we can’t do it alone, and need the support of a Koala Protection Act.

Yours sincerely,
Zoe Cooper

How this will help

By requesting that Trevor Evans propose the idea of creating a Koala Protection Act, we will make the government aware of the problem and hopefully they will choose to do something about it.

Trevor Evans is a member for Brisbane in the Australian House of Representatives. He is an economist which means he has expert knowledge concerned with the production, consumption, and transfer of wealth. He is in a position to help because he has lots of knowledge and is concerned with our economy.

By having lots of names on this petition, it indicates the level of support that we have. If Trevor Evens sees that there are a lot of names on the petition I'm sure he would consider it more seriously because he will realise that a lot of people actually agree and that it is a good idea to create a Koala Protection Act.
