It's the Attorney General's job to hold the President accountable, and refuse to defend unconstitutional or unlawful actions. We need to know if Jeff Sessions is up to that challenge -- and the Senate can't vote on him until we do.

We've seen how vital it is for the Attorney General to remain independent and objective. President Trump fired his acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, for refusing to enforce his immigration ban, because she made the legal judgment it was unconstitutional.

That's exactly what the Attorney General is expected to do -- and now we know that it is vital that our next Attorney General will be willing to stand up to this President. Despite the concerns on both sides of the aisle about the executive order on immigration, Senate leadership is still trying to ram through Sen. Jeff Sessions' nomination.

This is the first of what appears to be several legal controversies the Trump Administration will have to deal with, and the people have a right to hear directly from Sen. Sessions about how he would handle them as Attorney General -- before the Senate confirms him.
