Springfield Animal Control

Recently the Internet is abuzz with the news about a Missouri State quarterback who was charged with animal cruelty. As one who loves and have kept dogs as companions all my life, I am most disgusted by Breck Ruddick's behavior when he was found to have abused Luca, a beautiful and gentle Australian sheepdog who was sometimes known as the happy pooch due to her sweet and agreeable disposition.

The incident happened recently when Ruddick was tasked to take care of his friend Kaitlyn’s dog, Luca. Not long later, Kathryn was notified that Luca had run away. Distraught and panicked, her owner placed ads and beseeched good Samaritans to help locate Luca. Finally the poor dog’s whereabouts was traced to a nearby park where the happy pooch was found to severely injured, jaws mangled and teeth broken all over. She sent the poor dog to the vet where, upon completion of surgery, it was announced that the gentle sheepdog would not be able to consume solid food again.

When confronted, Ruddick admitted to beating Luca and letting her out to roam in spite of her injuries. His parents offered to fork out the vet’s fees. However, later on, he would recant his statement and denied everything.

What kind of cruel and irresponsible behavior is this? Ruddick was ticketed for animal cruelty but is that sufficient? How can we allow individuals to do this and get away scot-free? Previously known as the happy pooch, Luca is now an abused dog who is traumatised by the actions of someone he trusted. Let's not disappoint our furry friends and show that we humans are still a compassionate lot.

To the Springfield Animal Control, I hope you will take swift action and immediately dish out the proper punishment to Breck Ruddick for the atrocities he has done.

Thank you

Signed,

Deepak Majumder
