The US Forest Service

Dear USFS,

I’m writing to urge you to withdraw the proposal to approve Arch Coal’s coal lease modifications and exploration plan that would allow the company to remove 19 million tons of coal from a 1,700-acre parcel of Colorado’s Sunset Roadless Area, devastating this pristine natural environment and releasing millions of tons of carbon into the air.

Today, the threat of climate change to our natural environment and our economy has never been clearer. And the clean energy solutions we need to power our lives without destroying our planet are getting more affordable and accessible by the day.

Allowing Arch Coal to expand mining and release millions of tons of carbon pollution into the atmosphere would not only be a major step backward, but will harm our global environment and economy. We can’t let short-term corporate gain trump the long-term health of our climate and our communities.

For the sake of Americans today and future generations around the world, I urge you to preserve the Colorado Roadless Rule, close the Arch Coal loophole, and withdraw the proposed Arch Coal lease modifications.

Signed,

The Climate Reality Project

The US Forest Service (USFS) is proposing lease modifications that would allow Arch Coal, the nation's second-largest coal producer, to bulldoze through thousands of acres of public lands in order to build more roads, nearly 50 drill pads, and climate-polluting methane vents in Colorado's Sunset Roadless Area, which would devastate this pristine environment home to wildlife species from black bears to elk to lynx and release millions of tons of carbon into the air.

We need to put our planet before polluter profits – and you can help.

Submit a comment to the USFS today and join over 100,000 Americans who've already spoken up to tell the USFS to stop Arch Coal from mining Colorado coal. We only have until April 12 to make our voices heard.

Colorado's communities deserve a future supported by sustainable industries. And we all deserve a future without dangerous climate change.

Let's speak up and let the USFS know.
