Dear President Joko Widodo
We believe that deforestation is a catastrophic issue. We can see that you are in a position to take control of this issue and stop the destruction of Indonesia’s beautiful primary forests.
Even though Indonesia has made ambitious commitments to reduce emissions from deforestation and had experienced a promising decline it is disgusting and disappointed to see the slight increase in tree cover loss. Study published by Nature Climate Change revealed that your government had been under-reporting the amount of primary forest that they have been clearing.
Change is needed as companies or illegal plantations are clearing the forest and setting it ablaze causing an immense amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The smoke caused by these fires can spread towards local tribes, this could have a devastating effect on the health and well being of these Indonesian tribes.
Deforestation has also murdered some of your native species causing them to go extinct and endangered. Tigers, elephants and orangutans are some of the species that have been listed as endangered due to deforestation destroying their home either making the animals search for new refuge or starve to death
Taking action by enforcing strict laws against illegal deforestation it will affect the way the world views Indonesia and will also benefit with economic gain since the natural forests make more money than palm oil plantations. Furthermore just planting saplings or having only a selection of land for plantations would create major effects on the future benefits of Indonesia.
This is a call for you to act with your authority and change this devastating issue before it causes any more harm to your country and the world.

Requesting law enforcement on illegal deforestation and the protection of primary forests will allow the forests to regrow and animals to thrive. It is important as this will have the greatest influence on policies and enforcements regarding deforestation. The president is in a position to create changes since he is the voice of the country. President Joko has the ability to enforce and change the laws against deforestation and create benefits to tribes who own land. It is important for people to put their names onto a petition as it will capture the attention of the president and will trigger a change in the way they handle law enforcement towards deforestation. If this issue is not stopped the rest of the primary forest will be destroyed and climate change will rapidly increase with the immense amount of carbon let into the atmosphere.
