Maui's Dolphins are the world's rarest dolphins and close to extinction. They only live off the West coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Fishing methods like set nets, gill nets and trawling and human-caused effects like noise and other pollution are the greatest dangers for cetaceans around New Zealand.
We ask the New Zealand government to take action and protect ocean habitat more effectively by banning set nets, gill nets and bottom trawling in areas where dolphins live and not allowing oil drilling, seismic exploration and other activities with a negative effect on ocean habitat in coastal waters.

Signed,

Birgit Baader

Since years, the New Zealand government hasn't listened to scientists, conservationists, activists, researchers and others. By signing this petition you will help to raise awareness for Maui's dolphins and increase the pressure to take some action - e.g. not granting oil drilling permits, ban set nets, gill nets and trawling and support fishermen to switch to dolphin-safe fishing methods, establish more sanctuaries and effectively protect ocean habitat. Thank you!
