Support the Healthy Families Act for paid sick days!

To Members of Congress:

Protect the economic security and health of our families and our nation by acting quickly to co-sponsor and pass the Healthy Families Act!

Right now 4.3 million Americans — more than four in ten private-sector workers and 80% of low-wage workers — can't earn a single paid sick day for when they or a family member are sick. This means they have to make an impossible choice between going to work sick (and risk infecting coworkers and customers) or staying home and losing an invaluable day’s pay, or sometimes even losing their job.

That's bad for families, and it’s bad for our nation's economy! Please do everything in your power to support, co-sponsor, and pass the Healthy Families Act!

Signed,

This is important. Right now 43 million Americans — more than four in 10 private-sector workers and 80% of low-wage workers — can't earn a single paid sick day for when they or a family member are sick. [1] This means they have to make an impossible choice between going to work sick (and risk infecting coworkers and customers) or staying home and losing an invaluable day's pay, or sometimes even losing their job.

MomsRising member Amy from Oregon knows all too well how challenging it is to face this choice:

  • "As a single mom, I struggled every time my kids got sick to take care of them or the job that kept a roof over their heads. In order to keep my job, I once put my sick seven year old child in our car with sleeping bag, books, and stuffed animals, and parked it near a window where I could watch him and go out at breaks and lunch to take care of him. WE NEED PAID SICK LEAVE!"

Amy is far from alone. More than half of all working mothers in the United States (54%) do not have any paid sick days they can use to care for their children. [2]

Help us back up Senator Murray and Representative DeLauro. Sign on and tell Congress to act quickly to pass the Healthy Families Act now!
