President Obama

More than 400,000 people from across the country joined the People's Climate March and took to the streets in New York calling for strong US leadership to fight climate change. I believe this leadership is the key to a strong global solution to this great threat to people and nature.

I believe climate change is one the greatest challenges facing the United States and the world today. And I know that the only way to protect human society and life on our planet from its worst impacts will be strong action by all countries--but particularly, strong and ambitious leadership by the United States, both at home and abroad.

Thank you for your recent efforts to advance climate action in the US. What is needed now is a strong, visionary target to cut climate pollution all across America and support vulnerable communities around the world who are in danger from growing extreme storms, worsening droughts, and sea level rise.

As you said in New York, the United States has a special responsibility to lead the global response to this international crisis. Showing the world that the US has a strong vision to move to 100% clean energy will inspire other countries to act and finally bring the world together to address this crisis.

The world needs America's leadership right now. I support this Administration moving as quickly and aggressively as possible to reduce US carbon emissions and contribute its fair share to helping the world face down this threat. If you set a strong target to cut US climate pollution, others will follow.

Signed,

We need US action to fight climate change to be as strong as possible for two reasons: to cut US carbon pollution and begin to combat climate change impacts, and to inspire other countries to do the same. If we show Japan, Canada, China, Europe and the rest of the world that the United States is serious about tackling climate change, we will inspire those countries to commit to strong climate action.
