U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry

Dear Secretary Kerry:

Poisoning has emerged as a deadly new tactic in the war on Africa's elephants. Without a shot being fired, hundreds of elephants are being killed at a time so that the sale of their ivory can be used to fund terrorist and extremist groups across Africa.

We ask that you work with African nations to make sure that the increasing use of poison is addressed in ongoing anti-poaching partnerships. Such a comprehensive approach will help to ensure success in defeating poaching and wildlife trafficking networks and their terrorist allies, and in increasing security for Africa's wildlife and her people.

Signed,

H.O.P.E. Humanitarian Operations Protecting Elephants

The United States is a key source of support for efforts to end elephant poaching and the illegal trafficking of ivory.  Engaging the resources of the US to combat the poisoning of elephants and other wildlife will help to end the use of this deadly tactic before it gains any more momentum and claims the lives of more elephants.
