The CITES Secretariat & the 180 Member Parties

“CITES entered into force on 1 July 1975. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten the survival of the species in the wild”

Worldwide about 1 200 species are on Appendix I. These are species that are threatened with extinction and are or may be affected by trade. A lot of these animals are in great danger of being extinct within a decade.

That’s why WE the people of the World demand CITES to:
Take urgent action against canned / trophy hunting of Tigers, Leopards, Lions, Cheetahs and other endangered cats.

( How is it possible that endangered or critically endangered species are still allowed to be "legally hunted" down for a trophy? )

Even today wild Cheetahs are being captured and smuggled to the Middle East. We urge CITES to take immediate action. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2014/jul/15/cheetah-smuggling-wild-luxury-pets-gulf

We demand CITES to take URGENT action against countries like China who recently admitted to be selling tigers skins. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-28258595

Chinese ivory carving factories are the major cause of Elephant poaching. These factories are driving Elephants to extinction. If China wants to be taken seriously and treated with respect they must close them down. IFAW report
http://www.ifaw.org/sites/default/files/Making%20a%20Killing.pdf

We demand that CITES:
1. Immediately bans all trophy hunting of Polar bears permanently.
2. Immediately bans all sales of ivory permanently.
3. Votes NO to the South African government's proposal to legalize rhino horn trade and a one-off-sale of rhino horn.
4. Urge CITES to upgrade ALL species of rhinos in ALL Countries to Appendix I
5. A census needs to be done urgently on wild Rhinos by non-partisan experts. The captive bred Rhinos must be excluded from this census.
6. Great apes are on Appendix I yet the UN estimates that almost 3 000 great apes are lost every year in wildlife trafficking. Stricter actions need to be taken urgently. http://www.voanews.com/content/great-apes-poaching-5mar13/1615638.html
7. List Lions on Appendix I without delay.
8. We urge CITES to close the loopholes regarding the so-called "scientific" whaling by Japan and Iceland.
9. NO MORE tiptoeing around the “Gang of 19”. We expect you to take urgent action to safeguard all threatened and endangered species.

Signed,

Ingrid Ser
