Gov. John Kitzhaber of Oregon. I believe attempting something like this on a state level is an important first step in making this happen nationally.

Many in Oregon are already conscious of the threat of genetically modified foods, and the benefits of eating a nutritionally rich, risk free organic diet. This would be a positive step in the right direction by offering a stout 50% discount on all certified organic foods, and 100% for genetically modified foods. In a way, it is a strong backdoor to GMO labelling laws, and at core of it would educate people to eat better. Many don't even know the acronym GMO, genetically modified organisms are banned in 65 countries around the world, and 9/10 Americans don't even know what it means, that's a very scary disposition to say the least. Doing something like this will ambiently raise the general health of the state population. When other states notice this, they will likely hop on board for a similar bill. Doing this will also bring more money to local, and small farmers, compensating them properly for the hard work it takes to grow the good stuff. In regards to funding, the police, fire, libraries, roads, water, social security, medicaid, and other like programs only constitute about 25% of our total budget nationally. This would increase it MAYBE by a percentage point or two. Certainly worth it to have a nation of strong Americans to march forward into the 21st Century!

Signed,

William Joseph Fields
