Like you, I am deeply concerned with current plans for rapid, large-scale industrialization of the Great Barrier Reef, a World Heritage Site we all treasure.
Please take decisive action to ensure this precious icon is protected. I strongly urge you to:
1. Stop the dredging and dumping of 100 million tonnes of sand and rock into the Reef's waters.
2. Not allow fast tracked approvals of four new mega ports.
3. Prevent shipping superhighways where more than 7,000 industrial ships can cross the Reef.
The Great Barrier Reef is for all Australians and visitors from around the worldnot just big industry. And these new developments would surely be the quick demise of an already stressed ecosystem.
I know that the international pressure of respected bodies like UNESCO and the World Heritage Committee is critical. That's why I'm asking you to take a stand for this important World Heritage Site.
I look forward to the World Heritage Committee taking leadership and urgently ensuring the Reef is protected.

If successfully, we will stop the Australian government from allowing dumping and port development on the Great Barrier Reef.
