Dear Mr Yudhoyono,
We believe that the endangerment of the Sumatran rhino is a very important issue. We also believe that you are in a position to take action to address this issue.
There are just over 100 Sumatran rhinos left in the wild they are a special animal and a unique icon for your country. Poachers use dart guns to cause rhinos to collapse and because this is silent, poachers can be undetected by anti-poacher patrols. The poachers hack off the horns very roughly using an axe, panga or chainsaw. They often remove half of the rhino’s face, and leave the rhino to die a horrible and slow death. As rhino calves do not have horns, calves are left to starve to death beside their dead mothers. In addition, rhinos are also threatened by deforestation for palm oil plantations. Overall, Sumatra lost 7.5 million hectares of forest between 1990 and 2010, of which about 2.6 million hectares was primary forest. Rhino habitat is known to be in logged areas where there is an abundance of regenerating plant life. Less than 40% of the area in Kambas National Park is suitable for their habitat. Breeding of the rhinos outside of their natural habitat, can only decrease the birth rate. To save the Sumatran rhino deforestation needs to stop.
Your government will be judged on its ability to save the Sumatran rhino. The eyes of the world are watching! We ask that you get more anti-poaching patrols in the habitat of the Sumatran rhino. We also request that you make it illegal to cut down any more forests to make room for palm oil plantations and enforce heavy fines for deforestation.
We trust that you will act promptly on this matter.

I want people to sign this petition so that the President of Indonesia takes action to save the Sumatran rhino from extinction. The petition asks that he stops deforestation to preserve the habitat of the Sumatran rhino. Also, the petition asks for more anti-poaching patrols. If the President of Indonesia takes these actions, it will help the Sumatran rhino continue to breed and not cease to exist.
By signing this petition you can show the President of Indonesia that many people think saving the Sumatran rhino is a serious matter and action needs to be taken as soon as possible.
