Sign the Petition to

Pranab Mukherjee, President of India

Dear Mr Mukherjee,

We believe that the endangerment of the Bengal tiger is a very important issue. We also believe that you are in a position to take action to address this issue.

There are only an estimated 2,500 of Bengal tigers left in the wild. Poachers are one of the two main causes of Bengal tiger endangerment. Poachers kill Bengal tigers to make money on the black market from tiger fur and body parts used for traditional Asian medicines. Some poachers are now trapping tiger cubs and smuggling them out of India for private buyers. Climate change is the other major cause of the decrease in the Bengal tiger population. It makes the sea level rise further and further into the Sundarbans forest. This makes the Bengal tiger’s habitat smaller. The rising sea level also causes dirty saline water to run into the tiger’s drinking water and this causes tigers to become sick and die.

Your leadership will be judged on its ability to save the Bengal tiger from extinction. Obviously it is time that action is taken. We ask that you fund a media awareness raising campaign so your citizens know that burning of fossil fuels is contributing to climate change and also knows how to take action to reduce their carbon footprints. We also request that you hire more rangers for conservation parks were Bengal tigers are protected, and educate and equip these rangers so they can better deal with poachers.

By taking these actions you would show the world that you are willing to help your countries dying iconic animal. We trust that you will act promptly on this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Signed,

Sam Burgess

The endangerment of the Bengal tiger should be a big issue for India as the tiger is a major icon and symbolises courage, pride and bravery. There are only 1,700 to 2,500 Bengal tigers left in the world and this number is rapidly dropping as poachers increase. India is the only place where these beautiful creatures are found, so the person who can best make decisions to save the species is the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. He can help by making his citizens reduce their carbon footprints and hiring more, better trained rangers. By signing this petition, you will show Mr Mukherjee that the global community cares about the tiger and wants something done to save the Bengal tiger from extinction.
