Dear Mr Abe, We are writing to demand a change in Japanese whaling policies and procedures. We are concerned that this global issue needs immediate attention. Seven of the thirteen whale species are endangered due to whaling. Your country is using scientific whaling as an excuse for commercial whaling. A recent study shows that in just one season the Japanese whalers took three Southern Hemisphere fin whales, 508 southern hemisphere minke whales, 197 North Pacific minke whales, fifty-one North Pacific Brydes whales, 101 North Pacific sei whales, and six North Pacific sperm whales have been killed. As a result of these innocent creatures being killed there are declines in the whale populations. Scientific whaling is a huge issue and is being used as a loophole for commercial whaling. Scientific whaling should be banned. Your government’s political position will be viewed globally and you will be judged on how you address this matter. The eyes of the world are watching! We ask that you make a complete ban on whaling. Universities can use existing whale samples or recent data in studies. By using this solution scientific whaling can be banned and there will be no loophole to commercial whaling. We also request that you take immediate action by employing a task force to enforce the ban. By making a complete ban on whaling and enforcing this ban, you will show the world that you care about whales and the environment. We trust that you will act promptly on this matter. Yours sincerely,

petition is very important because if scientific whaling is not banned for Japanese whalers soon, the whale population will soon be extinct. If the Japanese government bans scientific whaling, there will be more whales in the ocean and they will be able to repopulate. Prime Minister Shinzō Abe is in the best position to take action and make a ban to scientific whaling as he is in charge of Japan and has the power to stop Japanese whalers. If many people sign this petition, it may influence Mr Abe because he will notice that there are a lot of people who oppose scientific whaling.
