Dear assemblymen and women of the California State Legislature, I'm writing you today to add my support for AB 2140, the Orca Welfare and Safety Act. This bill, introduced by Assembly member Richard Bloom, would insure that the practice of breeding and using orcas for entertainment would come to an end in CA.
I'm urging you to pass this precedent-setting legislation that will set the tone nationally towards ending the captive display of this intelligent, social, and far-ranging ocean predator.
Please join me in supporting the ground-breaking Orca Welfare and Safety Act and pass AB 2140. Thank you.

AB 2140 has been introduced to the California State Legislature by Assemblyman Richard Bloom. This is our best opportunity to end SeaWorld's circus-like orca shows and phase out holding these animals in captivity. AB 2140, the Orca Welfare and Safety Act, would make it illegal to "hold in captivity, or use, orcas for performance or entertainment." It would also prohibit captive breeding.
The tide has turned on the captive display of this iconic ocean mammal and this bill can help end it for good. Please support this ground-breaking ban on keeping orcas in captivity!
