Dear Secretary Kerry,
The Keystone XL pipeline is in Nebraska’s and America’s best interest. Please approve this overdue application and urge President Obama to issue a permit to finish the Keystone XL pipeline.
In Nebraska, our Department of Environmental Quality approved a new route avoiding the Sandhills, and the State Department confirmed minimal impact on the environment.
The Keystone XL pipeline would generate $1.8 billion in economic activity in Nebraska, including $580 million during the two-year construction phase. The project would create 5,500 construction jobs and 302 permanent jobs. The pipeline would generate $58.6 million in property tax revenue, $39.1 million in sales tax revenue, $23.4 million in income tax revenue, and $13.5 million in other tax revenue. And the U.S. Department of Energy found that KXL will decrease gasoline prices, which is important to Nebraska’s agricultural economy.
The 830,00 barrels a day the Keystone XL Pipeline has the capacity to deliver will displace overseas imports, improve our energy security, and encourage American energy development. KXL will provide a safe route to transport crude oil from the Bakken formation in North Dakota and Montana -which is certainly in our national interest.
Thank you for your consideration, please act now to approve Keystone XL and I urge you to act swiftly and approve the final leg of the Keystone pipeline system.
