We are asking that you follow President Obama's unprecedented move for disabled workers rights by requiring all disabled workers make at least minimum wage by reforming section 14(c) of the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This act is outdated and unjust.
FLSA allows employers like Pizza Hut, Holiday Inn, and Goodwill to obtain permits to pay disabled workers BELOW minimum wage, in some cases as low as 22¢. It's time for reform.
We are asking you to step up for ALL of America's workforce. Close the loophole in FLSA that exploits workers and pays them pennies.
Equal Rights for Disabled Workers
Under section 14(c) of the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), an employer can legally pay a disabled person BELOW minimum wage with the right permit. Companies including Pizza Hut, Goodwill, and Holiday Inn are using a loophole in this act to pay workers pennies on the dollar. However, just because it's "legal" doesn't make right!
It's time Congress reform the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) that allows employers to pay disabled workers way below minimum wage, in some cases as low as 22¢.
If Obama can step up for America's workforce Congress needs to follow and make sure they are stepping up for all workers regardless of ability.
Close the FLSA loophole in this act that exploits workers and pays them pennies.
