Under section 14(c) of the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), an employer can legally pay a disabled person BELOW minimum wage with the right permit. Companies including Pizza Hut, Goodwill, and Holiday Inn are using a loophole in this act to pay workers pennies on the dollar. However, just because it's "legal" doesn't make right!
It's time Congress reform the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) that allows employers to pay disabled workers way below minimum wage, in some cases as low as 22¢.
If Obama can step up for America's workforce Congress needs to follow and make sure they are stepping up for all workers regardless of ability.
Close the FLSA loophole in this act that exploits workers and pays them pennies.
