While I understand that euthanasia is a cruel reality in some cases , I don't understand why Belmont County Animal Rescue League in Ohio constantly "kills" our beautiful and highly adoptable animals. Many of these dogs had Credited Rescues denied and/or neglected adoptions that were ignored and not followed through, their calls were not answered and many times, mistreated. Instead, to their horror, they were told that their would-be pet they fell in love with was put to "sleep". Why??? Again, and again our beloved animals are being slaughtered unnecessarily and with TOTAL IMPUNITY by the staffer in charge who is paid to protect keep our animals safe while they find a home, not to be their "judge" and "executioner". Good hearted volunteers, have to return to walk the shelter dogs, only to find out that some that were sweet, friendly, well behaved and full of life (just learning new tricks) have been "euthanized" (and I use the term loosely). As tears of powerlessness flow down their faces…they themselves why? There was no imminent need and some had been denied rescues...others denied rescue and adoptions.....why??? ACT of Ohio, in particular, Steffen Baldwin, gave his heart and soul as a mediator and drove many miles in the snow to this shelter to restructure a better, safer and more ethical policy and procedures for our animals, sadly, to no avail. Killings of adoptable dogs are still taking place. They remained chained outside in extreme whether. It took Cindi Yanez, to beg the Commissioner to look into a dog with an opened gash on it's leg, chained and standing in muddy snow for days. Forced by the Commissioner's intervention…it took two days to take this poor dog to the vet. Hasn't been seen since?? Cindi Yanez gave another radio interview making a plea for our animals and to try to give them a voice. I consider Cindi Yanez to be a dog's best friend…..whether lobbying in Washington, or standing in front of the Belmont Commissioner's meeting, you will find her fighting to keep our dogs alive along with other brave volunteers who dare to stand aganst the "status quo". You will find Cindi a many other volunteers driving for hours one way, transporting our beloved animals to caring against time before they're "euthanized". Why is this abuse "a constant" in Belmont County Animal Rescue League in Ohio, Is our silence colluding with this abuse…..and I clearly define "killing" our animals while rescues and adopters want the "HIGHEST" form of abuse. THEY CAN'T DO IT ALONE!! Will you stand up for our animals and sign this petition for change in management that boast that they have been in the business for 40 YEARS….or will it be less uncomfortable to have it remain "as is" entrenched in "its always been done that way" mentality while our animals are killed? It's your call. If you love our animals…..and you want to participate in saving lives…..please sign.

If you have time to read more and would be interested in knowing why I became so motivated in this cause….this is my story:

For many years I didn't think violence against animals was a big deal. I cheered at the bull fighting events feeling I was so cool. One day my supervisor gave me a puppy. He was so cute..a dachshund mix. As he grew older, he saw me going through many loses of people, places and things that I loved. The constant change had me sad, confused, anxious and a sense of impending doom was always hovering over my head. I started to notice that my faithful furry companion would lay down by my side sensing when I was falling apart until he knew I felt better. He would then go to his favorite part of my bed knowing I was sleeping peacefully. Many times, his warm little body would take the place of my departed husband by my side. When tears would start streaming down my face, his little tongue would catch them and he would continue licking my face is if to console me. The only constant in my life was my beloved furry companion's love. His unconditional love, asking for nothing in return, always happy to see me return as if I had a welcoming parade waiting for me started to change me inside. I started to notice that the constant gloom and doom feelings were starting to go away and in its place….a warmth that only feeling loved and accepted can give you stayed in its place. Years later, on my retirement, I was faced with wanting to save a scruffy faced terrier mix angel who would surely be put to sleep because of its very shy nature. She arrived shaking and scared to death of everyone. She was beautiful to me. I adopted her….or should I say she adopted me. I now know that if it wasn't for a veritable army of volunteers, she would not have made it there alive. Words cannot describe the love she gives me that seems to come from a place a deep gratitude….not only for saving her life, but for now knowing what it is like to be loved for the first time. She and my… senior….furry angel complete me….and have made my humble home a peaceful sanctuary.

Hopefully, officials that have turned a blind eye to the conditions that our beloved dogs endure at BELMONT COUNTY ANIMAL RESCUE LEAGUE Shelter of Ohio will change management and monitor enforcement of shelter policies established for the sake of our animals while finding a caring home.   This shelter constantly denies rescue organizations for our dogs and hinders adoptions only to have them euthanized???  Petfinder's page has not been updated in months.   Minimal,  if any, information is posted on their pictures.  How can these poor chained dogs living on mud, snow, rain, heat, etc. find a home without their accurate description?   Stories of volunteers treated as burdens are shared and many of our potential adopters are being  ignored, lied to, and mistreated.  How is this abuse absolute impunity even possible???  I clearly define "killing" our animals while rescues are denied and adoptions are hindered….as the "highest" form of abuse.  In the name of our animals that have suffered enough, and if you feel you would like them to find a loving home instead of being killed….please sign.   Thank you!
