We, the citizens of the United States of America, want to see a change in the way companies process their foods by processing those foods on three different equipments. The equipments made to process foods are separate; One for strictly peanuts, one for strictly tree nuts, and one for anything that doesn't contain peanuts or tree nuts.
Yes, companies note on their boxes and wrappers that their items that aren't suppose to contain peanuts or tree nuts are 1: processed on equipment that also processes peanuts or tree nuts, or 2: may contain traces of peanuts or tree nuts. We don't agree that is enough. Because majority of foods are being processed on the same equipment as peanuts and tree nuts, its not safe for people to continue to buy and eat many companies products. More and more foods are beginning to be processed on the same equipment. We believe it would be safer, better, and more efficient if companies made their products on different equipments to avoid/lower the risk of allergic reactions. Because peanuts and tree nuts are two different types of nut family, they would be processed on separate equipment as well, hence three equipments. Because companies want to make things cheaper for them, their customers have to eat majority of their products on their own risk, allergic reactions are increasing, and it's getting out of hand. One type of allergic reaction is called anaphylaxis, a severe reaction that can be fatal if not stopped in time.
By signing this petition, we, as the citizens of the United States of America, demand that companies change the way their process their foods by separating peanuts, tree nuts, and foods that do not contain either nuts, on three different equipments. By signing this petition, we, as the citizens of the United States of America, demand to call attention to this issue that is increasing, and eventually get a law passed that states companies have to process each food item category on three separate equipment.

How many people do you know with food allergies? In the US, there is roughly 15 million citizens with food allergies, with 1 in every 13 people. Did you know that every 3 minutes, someone is sent to the emergency room just for food allergies? There are more than 200,000 hospital visits containing food allergies each year! There are many foods that can trigger someone who is allergeic to particular foods but this petition is going to focus on two of them; peanuts and tree nuts. Many foods are processed on the same equipment that peanuts and tree nuts are processed on. So compnaies can't get sued for someone having an allergic reaction to their products, the box or wrapper the food is sealed in will say either 1: processed on equipment that also processes peanuts or tree nuts. or 2: may contain traces of peanuts or tree nuts. The companies use the same equpiment for their foods because it's cheaper. But is it really? For them, yes. For others, (their customers) not so much. Yes people are eating things at their own risk but wouldn't it just save a lot of hassle if products were made on seperate equipment? This petition is focusing on peanuts and tree nuts because many foods are made on the same equipment that isn't suppose to contain any peanuts or tree nuts. Did you know there is around 3 million US citizens that have peanut and/or tree nut allergies? I, for one, am one of them. I'm highly deadly allergic to two types of tree nuts; cashews and brazil nuts. The doctors told me to stay away from all tree nuts because tree nuts can bind together and I could have the same reaction to the other tree nuts as if I were to have a reaction to cashew or brazil nuts. When they did the allergy test, instead of them putting things on my back to see if I would have a reaction to them to see what I was allergic to, they took my blood instead. They said because I had a reaction to a type of tree nut, (I had anaphylaxis) they didn't want to put me at risk again. This was before they found out I was allergic to cashew and brazil nuts. After the results and the doctors and I talked, the tree nut that I had ingested was neither a cashew or a brazil nut. They assumed that there were traces of either a cashew or brazil nut in the tree nut I was eating that made me have an allergic reaction that soon became anaphylaxis. Some people have minor reactions with just an itchy tongue or mouth or a small swelling on their skin. But some people have anaphylaxis. What is that? It's a reaction to foods that happens quickly, (though anaphylaxis can happen in other reactions to other things as well,) we're just talking about foods. It comes on fast and strong and the person involved needs to take percausion and seek medical help immediately. Many people have an epi-pen that injects a need into their thigh and relases a medicine to help slow down the reaction. It does not in no way or form stop the reaction, but to only slow it down. Signs and Symptoms of Anaphylaxis:Skin reactions, including hives along with itching, and flushed or pale skin (almost always present with anaphylaxis)A feeling of warmthThe sensation of a lump in your throatConstriction of the airways and a swollen tongue or throat, which can cause wheezing and trouble breathingA weak and rapid pulseNausea, vomiting or diarrheaDizziness or faintingSwelling of the eyesThis petition is to call attention to the issue of companies that process peanuts and tree nuts on the same equipment as other foods they make. (that would include majority of companies) This petition will hopefully call enough attention for the companies (or some) to change their ways of how they process their foods by making the food that isn't suppose to contain tree nuts or peanuts on different equipment. It is in hopes for companies (or some) to process their foods on 3 different equipments; 1 for peanuts only, 1 for tree nuts only, and 1 for any other foods that don't contain peanuts or tree nuts. I'm wanting this to go global and hopefully make a change in everyone's life, especially for the ones who suffer allergic reactions to foods, especially ones allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. If this peition goes global or big enough to get enough attention for the government and president to notice, I would like a law to get passed that every company makes their products on 3 different equipments to avoid/lower the risk of their customers health drastically. Please join this petition to change and save many lives!
