There is a reason why animals like dogs and cats are considered our best friends. They make wonderful pets, and loyal companions. They also save lives and prevent crime. Yet in China, they are subjected to an abundance of violence without question or consequence. They are tortured and killed and used for food and clothing. There are no regulations or laws preventing cruelty to them, whether on farms or in the streets in neighborhoods. In 2008, a man was caught on video beating a dog with a shovel, then with the help of a female partner, stuffed it into a trash can, dumped trash on top of it and then gave it to garbage collectors. Several more recent cases, also caught on video, involved a man publicly beating a Tibetan Mastiff to death with a board while others stood by and filmed. Another, also a Tibetan Mastiff, who is visibly calm and does not bite or attack anyone, is brutally shot to death by a Chinese policeman with a high-powered assault rifle. Yet another dog, along with all of its siblings, was beaten to death by a man in a public market, all because it supposedly bit him. Make no mistake, dogs do bite and attack, but do so often when they are threatened. Even if a dog is aggressive, there is no excuse to beat or shoot them so brutally and carelessly in public; this puts the lives of people in danger and there are better ways of handling these situations. Full investigations need to happen in regards to these incidences, and there need to be laws in place punishing people for this behavior.
This will show the authorities in China that cases like the above do not and will not go unnoticed. This is a strong reminder the world is watching, and that they can no longer allow animals to be...
