Accept your responsibility for sustainable consumers behavior, do not recommend eating endangered species

As signer of this letter I urge the Weight Watchers International Inc. to efface all endangered species from the lists of recommended food choices.
I was shocked, when I saw, that Weight Watchers recommends to their members to eat endangered fish species, such as sharks, skate and orange roughy. I am sure, that it would be justifiable to recommend eating these species to people who want to take care about their body-weight, if only the nutritional profile of the food was a criteria of a food choice.
In fact nowadays every human, especially in the developed countries, who has enough to eat so that the nutritional profile of a food choice becomes a selection criterium, has a responsibility for a sustainable consumption of natural resources.
This responsibility applies in particular to you, as millions of people in the developed countries follow your recommended food choices.
I want to let you know, that some of your food recommendations are endangered species, who are close to extinction. Eating these species is not compatible with our responsibility for a sustainable use of the natural resources.
There are plenty of possible food choices, that do not extinct any species and keep the ecosystem intact.
Please stop to recommend eating endangered species such as shark, swordfish and orange roughy. Adapt your lists and remove all species, that are not listed in the category "least concern" in the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species.

Signed,

Lucas Schmitz

If the top predators in the marine ecosystem, such as shark or swordfish die out completely, or if their population falls under a critical point, the entire ecosystem might collapse with tremendous effects on all life on the earth.

Weight Watchers, the worlds biggest diet company, that holds worldwide over 48.000 meetings per week for over 1.000.000 members, recently published a new list for their customers recommending to eat fish and shellfish.
On this list one finds among others some of the most endangered fish species in the world, that in fact play a crucial role in the marine ecosystem.
In fact Weight Watchers recommends eating sharks, skate and orange roughy. All of these species you find on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species categorized as critically endangered.

As a reaction of comments of angered people on the facebook page of Weight Watchers and the offer of the UK-Charity "bite back" to help Weight Watchers to create a more ethical list of recommended food choices, Weight Watchers disclaimed their responsibility to inform their members of the ethical nature of their eating habits.
In other words Weight Watchers believes not to be responsible for supporting an ecologically sustainable consumerism.

With the recently published list Weight Watchers encourages millions of their members to eat critically endangered species.

By signing this petition you will appeal to the senseof responsibility of Weight Watchers by asking the CEO James Chambers to efface all endangered species on the lists of recommended food choices and to publish lists that help saving endangered species from extinction and prevent a collapse of the ecosystem.
